    The game hates me

I've posted elsewhere about the rotten starts I get 90% of the time, but my latest game looked OK initially and then everything went horribly wrong. A reasonably-shaped pangaea, with my capital on the north-east coast and grassland. But no hills, no flood plains, and only a tiny little river...

    I got a big problem

I've had similar problems, several times. I play for fun, as an alternative to gawping at TV or twiddling my fingers, so I'm not interested in struggling against impossible odds. I prefer pangaeas, but not those shaped like a tattered animal-skin rug with big holes in it, and then when I do get...

    Pure affinity unit upgrades

Personally I think that already there has been too much effort put into the appearance of units. However detailed the visuals, they do nothing for the gameplay. And watching a couple of units swivel around to glare at each other before actually engaging in combat is just another way of padding...

Why must they always settle so close to me.

On a continent shaped like a narrow-waisted figure-eight, my city was on the much-smaller "balloon" not far from the waist. No easy expansion north due to a vast patch of miasma. Then KP arrived between me and the waist, followed swiftly by Polystralia to my south and F-IB south-west - both too...

Beyond Earth Ideas & Suggestions Not-Worth-Their-Own-Thread

I wish that :- 1. Farms had some visible building on them. 2. The Adviser would say just where a new trade route is available, not simply "you might find this helpful". 3. When selecting a new trade route, the route to the potential trade partner would show up. All I get is the occasional...

    Trade Routes panel

There have been other posts about this panel not working as it should, to which I would add that on the "available routes" display it says that those shown include those already running. They do not.

    Quick Questions and Answers

Can anybody explain the scoring ? Comparing two games, in the second I had about the same number of tiles, more and bigger cities so more population, more techs, wonders and virtues, much higher affinity levels, more and better military. But I got only about 80%of the first game's score. Why ?

    War on defunct colonies

On three separate occasions I have had AI colonies declare war on colonies which have ceased to exist, they having been assimilated into my expanding empire. Of those three, two have been interpreted as declaring war on me : how dare they ? The real-world equivalent would be declaring war today...

    Yourself as a building

Or perhaps as a unit, tech, or whatever. Surely someone can identify with a Ranger or Soldier: one with a large appetite could be a Mass Digester; or one with a big family a Civil Creche ? Personally, as I'm sure anybody who recalls me from Civ4 would agree, I lay claim to being an Old Earth...

    Emancipation victory

I have just achieved one of these, and do not intend ever to try for another. Firstly my victory score was only about one-third of that from a Domination victory at the same (Sputnik -I'm a new player) level although the latter took some 50 more turns, and secondly because the end of the game is...

    Brasilia city names

DefiantMars - Tixeno is splendid, and when appropriate I shall use it (with your permission). Makenshi - some of your names I can't use, not having the characters available. And a few look odd to an Englush eye: "Brilha" suggests "Brillo", a trade name for a soap-impregnated wire-wool pan...

    Thoughts on Improving Stations

At present, if a Station is attacked it defends itself, usually blasting the attacking AI unit down to just a few HP. That attacker then stays put until it has healed, when it attacks again, with the same result. Repeat indefinitely. Surely the Station should be able to attack/destroy a nearby...

    Brasilia city names

In Civ4 someone had a city near iron and pigs, and therefore called the city Pig Iron. Following that idea, I had one called Marblewine which I thought sounded nice. But in BE this doesn't work: how could one name a place Titaniumxenomass ?

    Give me a chance !

Oh dear, it's happened again. Got a second city, then down came the other stinkers just about as close to me as possible - three civs and two minor things. Of course, by that time I'd used up my culture getting different virtues and got a free Worker, and had managed to get two Soldiers upgraded...

    Quick Questions and Answers

Where is the explanation of how orbital units remain exactly where they were first placed ? Today's physics says the geostationary satellites must be placed above the equator: other orbits loop north and south and pass over continually-varying places on the planet's surface. The only way to keep...
