How about the fact that none of the competitive or public games online used animations in Civ IV?
Maybe that had something to do with them taking it out in Civ V.
But you know, I'm sure your point was very good too. What exactly was your point?
Lol? You think speed wasn't rewarded in Civ IV? Fast moving and ctrl-a were often hugely important tools to use. The fact that you had stacks made it even harder because the moment catapults came around whoever could attack the other stack first could basically wipe out someone's entire army...
That's not true. In Civ IV the camera wouldn't lock unless you set that in the options. It was completely unnecessary then and it's completely unnecessary now.
You guys realize that the AI's skill level is dependent on the difficulty setting, right?
So, since everyone goes with the default in MP the AI is dumb when it takes over.
Just accept that multiplayer is in shambles right now... While your effort is appreciated, ultimately, I think pacing issues will persist until civs on the map can be increased and a faster turn timer becomes available.
Quitters were a problem in Civ IV too. That's kind of a major problem no matter what. The league addresses that somewhat with the reporting system, but other than that any kind of Steamworks implemented system will probably not be able to effectively deal with quitters.
