Tell me, if you think they're going to break their legal obligation to keep your details confidential anyway, what is the point of an "opt out" for it?
Nothing.
What is the point of this thread?
Nothing.
Just yet more evrett making claims that everyone involved is wanting to sell details...
So back up your games in case of a games industry apocalypse? There's a whole backup system for making copies of your steam games in the client.
I'm not sure what you want me to say, there are a whole bunch of different options available to you if something that's really unlikely happens...
Obtaining a copy of a game that you have a legitimate license to use is not piracy.
You would also only have to resort to this if 2k completely abandoned the game and refused to provide an alternative download location.

They didn't mean to turn off your virus scanner while playing steam and simultaneously surfing porn on an unpatched version of IE6.
They are saying that malicious code cannot be transmitted to your system via...
In online mode, steam already gets sent information about your initiation and closing of games for validation purposes, as well as for the community features.
It's not a question of whether or not you should give this information to steam, that is part of it's functionality.
