Any cool civs to exploit on a TERRA map?

My one piece of advice if you opt for Polynesia is that you should NOT settle your first settler in the New World. You have plenty of time to exploit your ability with new settlers and scouting (e.g., monopolizing the ruins and CSs) without gimping your early game.

-DEBATE- Should Firaxis add the "get your soliders off my borders?"

Thanks. I guess I'm a bit peeved that we have to look in the code to figure out what we've promised. Do you happen to know which AI actions free you from your obligation? Several games ago I figured out (by random chance) that an AI plopping a GG on my land allowed me to DOW without breaking...

    When other civs come a-begging

The negative attitude is probably an artifact of earlier versions that gave you a negative modifier for saying no. This malus was pretty irksome combined with the often absurd requests from the AI (can you imagine a country in the real world getting indignant when an ally refuses to gift a...

    Most Common Natural Wonder

Yeah, Grand Mesa is baffling. Hey, an unimproved gems hill that can't ever be improved. SWEET!!!

-DEBATE- Should Firaxis add the "get your soliders off my borders?"

I just want the parameters of the promise to be a little bit more transparent. You shouldn't have to scour through internet forums just to get a clue about what you promised. Heck, even after reading about this promise a zillion times, I don't know the exact terms (how long does it last? what...

    Can't trust the AI

Documentation on the warmonger penalty is quite poor. However, the good news is that you can still go on conquest binges without racking up too much hate. What you need to do is first bribe your victim to attack (and hopefully eliminate) a CS or small civ. Once they do so, you can take several...

    Shoshone the terrible

That's what I was thinking. As "captain," should I be taking orders from my Great Admiral?

    Stop... Hammer time!

Venetian internal trade routes and iron curtain, ftw. Settings are emperor, archipelago, standard, epic. The shot was taken long after I won ("one more turn"). You could probably squeeze in at least 200 more hammers with more land in the capital (desert hills would be best). 1K might be...

What do you do with your Great Scientists, Engineers, and Merchants?

Great merchants continue to be the game's most baffling balance oversight. Customs houses are god awful trash. A silver or gold mine with a mint provides as much gold and more hammers. I have no idea what the developers were thinking.

You broke your promise to move your troops away from the border

Does anyone know which AI actions nullify this promise? In a recent game, I got hit with this dumb feature while moving my troops near Atilla's territory to address a barbarian encampment. I responded "just moving through," and the next several turns Atilla drops two GGs in my territory...

    Diplo victory since the patch

Yes, it seems balanced now. As for the Open Border (OB) discussion, I can confirm that being close to a diplomatic victory (DV) will fool the AI into opening borders and allowing a cultural victory (CV). In my most recent game, I was 4 turns away from a DV when I won a CV. All but one of my...
