    Leaders we don't want.

I've always been of the opinion that "interesting" leaders are a better choice than historically accurate or even great leaders. For that reason, I am more forgiving about females who weren't actually leaders of their country (Joan of Arc) or whose accomplishments were dwarfed by their...

    Leaders speak their own language

The thing I don't understand about this (without wanting to get into the back and forth that's been going on), is why it would really matter to have subtitles. I mean, every Civ game has just had text for diplomacy dialogue, so it doesn't seem like anything is really being sacrificed here. I...

    Hexagons more restrictive on movement?

I don't a tile was meant to represent that small a space. If that were the case, a whole city would have to fit into such a small space as well.

    Civ5 Interview @ PC Gamer

Well, if there's no infantry between the archer and the enemy, then you're right. Otherwise, the archers will be able to sit there and lob arrows at the enemy until the cows come home and the archer is never actually risked in any way. This is similar to how artillery units worked in Civ3...

"One unit per one tile" strategy thoughts

I think his point had more to do with the many tasks the player has to carry out rather than whether a person can wear both the hats of world leader and military commander in the real world since they obviously can and have. The scope of the game is so huge that micromanaging troop movements to...

    Civ5 Interview @ PC Gamer

Tiles do not represent a specific distance to be sure, but to say that they represent a completely indeterminable amount of space is also not true. Having them firing two tiles away means they are completely removed from the potential counterattack by melee units. This necessarily represents a...

"One unit per one tile" strategy thoughts

The problem is that this isn't really tactics. You're not trying to get the best position relative to your enemy. You're trying to stay out of the way of your own units, and that's not the same thing. Nevermind the fact that tactics generally refers to battlefield decisions and planning...

    Civ5 Interview @ PC Gamer

What?! You know, I could take or leave religion in Civ just because it wasn't given a lot of depth, but you're saying that rather than simply excising religion as a factor from the AI's decision making, you simply gutted the whole system altogether?? That's like using a sledgehammer to perform...

    Civ5 Interview @ PC Gamer

Jon, seriously, what were you and the team smoking when you came up with this?? I've been patiently reading the details hoping that somehow you just haven't released some critical piece of info, but there really doesn't seem to be one! One unit per tile? really? This was your solution to...

Need some ideas for a 2nd UU

I do find it pretty incredible that after all these years of the game being out, and in spite of all the different minor variations on all sorts of units, none of the unit makers have tackled a ballista.

Need some ideas for a 2nd UU

But the Romans already have an infantry UU. I think the Ballista would be the best choice because the classical era is already laden with Axemen and Swordsmen replacements but very light on siege units. The biggest problem though is a lack of graphics. If there's a ballista graphic out there...

    Version 0.82 discussion thread

I've actually added in a UNITAI_MEDIC. But I think that if a modder isn't going to add a dedicated medic unit to the game, it's better not to use it as the default for any unit because then it will only do medic activities. Having a unit be changed to UNITAI_MEDIC when it promotes itself with...

    Version 0.82 discussion thread

The game already does this. Virtually every promotion decision is made based on the unit's UNITAI type.

    Version 0.82 discussion thread

It would probably be quite difficult to turn a Scout or Explorer into a super medic. But they can certainly be a regular medic... particularly once they're no longer useful for exploring.
