You never have any obsolete units lying around? You always upgrade every unit immediately after researching a new military technology?
That example was just that ... an example. Maybe you have enough imagination to think of a similar scenario in a different time frame if the Liberalism...
It's not that hard to imagine situations where it would be useful. I'm not saying it happens all the time, but coming up with the hypothetical case is easy. For example ...
You're trying to win the Liberalism race. You're 4 turns away from finishing your research. Montezuma suddenly...
I'm assuming that this means all wonders that have already been built at whatever point you're able to achieve a victory. Hypothetically, if you can get a domination victory in 1800 and you control all existing wonders, you shouldn't be forced to screw around delaying your win just so you can...
You should have at least 1 strong production city that never builds anything except military units and buildings that will help build those units faster (forge, Heroic Epic, health / happiness only as needed). When not working on buildings (which should be most of the time), that city should...
Axemen are melee units, but those who really know will tell you that Dun's give Guerrilla I to all land units that would normally be eligible to get that promotion. That means archery, recon, and gunpowder units (not melee).
But explorers get it already without a Dun, and the Dun is obsolete...
If your leader is Aggressive, Cover is also a nice promotion that often gets less credit than it deserves. City Raider I gives you +20%, Cover gives you +25%.
If your enemy has copper and/or has had time to make a diverse force of defenders that includes the occasional axeman, then City...
Slavery can help quite a bit with an axeman rush. Using the whip, you can build 2 axemen in as little as 3 turns in any city that has 2 population to whip.
Put 1 turn and less than 5 hammers (adjust hammer costs for game speed if you play Epic / Marathon) into an axeman. Whip on turn 2 for 2...
I'll be interested to see how the "No Technology Brokering" works out. I would have voted against it. I'm not a fan of that option in general, and for this game in particular, I worry that it may backfire on you.
In any game, it just seems strange to me. Why would you disable such a...
One of the reasons for merging your first Great General and making the super medic is to enable the Heroic Epic and West Point. It's not impossible to get that level 6 unit naturally , without using a Great General (and with Boudica it's easier than with many other leaders), but it's a lot...
Can anyone confirm (or deny) this? It seems like a pretty critical point. If the withdrawal chance only works when you're attacking a hill tile, that kind of sucks, but I guess it makes sense that a hill-oriented promotion shouldn't add a universal withdrawal chance.
I took a very quick...
The description I'm reading for the Dun says it gives Guerrilla I to all "land units." Are riflemen not a land unit? Is the description wrong? Is there some other limitation on who does and doesn't get the promotion?
I'm assuming it's really only available to all land units who would...
Note: I haven't played Boudica, so I'm speculating here, but ...
IMHO that's the most significant benefit of the Guerilla line. In a typical war, I usually assume I need a minimum of 2 attackers per defender to ensure success. In many/most cases (pre-catapults, high cultural defense, walls...
