One thing I really miss from Civ4 are the huge "swings" that players can unlock as early as Bronze Working.
1. Chop-Whip rush with Axes/HAs/Elepult/UU. I've lost count of how many times this thing has been nerfed, but it's still a (the?) premiere strategy on levels below Deity.
2...
To be honest, it's incredibly hard to figure out what the issue is without seeing screenshots of your in-game progress, but I'll try anyways.
1. When do you get your NC?
2. When do you hit Education?
3. What is your BPT at Turn 140 (it should be ~230-280)?
4. What is your BPT at Turn 200...
1. Check every turn to see if other civs have luxes needed to satisfy CS quests and/or We Love the King Day.
2. If your worker is moving two tiles over in one turn, best to move him one tile and then build a road/farm/trading post, then move him over to the tile the next turn.
You should try watching Light Cleric's (Elcee's) China playthrough. G&K, but pretty fun!
You also don't need 3-4 cities; 2-3 is fine as well.
A good mapscript to practice on is Inland Sea; it is like Pangae but less random.
The science tech build is:
1. Philosophy (National College)
2. Education (University)
3. Astronomy if your cap is next to a mountain, Acoustics otherwise (to get into
Renaissance)
4. Architecture (Porcelain Tower)
5. Scientific Theory (Public Schools)
The fork referenced below is...
I just completed a Korea Deity Cultural CV (~Turn 269 if you are curious, but I only popped 2 Musicians from specialists so it should definitely be faster...).
- As Deau said, without a strong FPT pantheon, getting a religion is rough. But I think it's better for faith to be saved in order...
1. Local happiness limitation. Although to be frank, local happiness isn't really a limitation anymore, since most local happiness buildings only provide +2 happiness.
2. National Wonders (unlike C4 which required to REX out for National Wonders, Civ 5 National Wonders discourage expansion)...
Reasons for staying small compared to Civ V release:
1. Flank protection
2. National Wonders
3. Lower happiness/resource
4. Weaker library, which means you need Unis to unlock more research power.
I wonder if the differences are because Civ 5 vanilla was designed by a computer modder (Jon), while F&K/BNW was designed by a board game designer (Ed).
I find most mods have great ideas but are weighed down by bloat & shoddy implementation.
The only other game I know that had a "modder"...
