Interesting to see you use Generals to get two +++ surgeons. Does that mean they heal 50% each turn? Personally I thought of using my first General to promote two Merchantmen to +3 Navigation, it seems like this will cut down travel times considerably(quick trips to Europe). Though attaching a...
I always wanted to try this carpentering strategy, build a printing press first get Cabral and Minuit, then dock/lumber mill/schoolhouse and start educating carpenters (or lumber jacks if money is tight).
Still normally at least 6 carpenter and 6 lumberjacks are needed for my factory town...
Thanks for sharing these hints, many have been very valuable to me. Here's a couple more:
About canals, it is possible to channel/bridge a landmass of two tile width with a city of your own and a native village, while it is impossible to reach a city behind a coastal native village via ship...
The Finer Points of Diplomacy
or how I learned to love the Natives
A work in Progress (official patch, recently updated).
Is there more to diplomacy than declaring war, opening borders and snagging up Pocahontas?
- Absolutely! Bribe the "Indians" into complacency, call for help when under...
It took me a while to realize that I actually better skip the crappy ones. And sometimes these are hard choices. Aside from Cabral and Minuit, I like Coronado because he greatly changes the strategy on the field of battle.
Francisco de Coronado
+1 Movement of Dragoon
Yes, shift economy from havanas and booze to muskets and ponies, maybe even Ships/Cannons but most importantly liberty bells. In fact once the Kings armies start pouring in - your expert weavers, tobacconists, planters and fur traders can be the first to be called to arms besides your veteran...
In order to speed up Transportation in early to mid game, it's possible instead of investing into roads and wagons to commit to a fleet of caravels. Then place cities along the coast with two tiles in between, in the following manner.
-- city -- city -- village -- city -- city
Now you...
The best leader for me is the one for which I can think of a strategy, such as building at least one early cathedral with the English, or getting to efficient production fast with Stuyvesant. Currently messing with Frenchmen. Spain's Leaders don't seem to offer any crucial early game advantages...
Colonization is about discovery. A detailed guide has the potential to seriously spoil it and possibly invoke the sentiment "I would never have thought of this on my own." That's why the in game encyclopedia is mostly descriptive and keeps mum when it comes to strategy.
Unlike in heavily...
Permafrost and only 4 snow free month make farming pretty much impossible, that's why these people live from reindeer herding and fishing/hunting. With all those hardships at least the northern see is richer, don't know if maps account for that.
I've been playing the pu$$y tacticts so far, tolling bells only in the very early and very late game, numbers were 1:1 once the armed servants converged toward my coastal fortess. The King only had six M-o-Ws allowing me a rather easy naval victory.
BTW because the MoWs stick around for a turn...
Some tribes are easier to get along with than others. I usually end up wiping out Sitting Bull and Oconosota, while remaining friends with the Tupi and Arawak.
Besides the AI starts to conspire against you once you attack other European nations. Colonies can only talk the natives into war, if...
Veteran dragoons and soldiers will rise through the ranks twice as fast as cannons, due to the +100% XP Leadership bonus. Even though cannons are much more effective massacring entire settlements/tribes, with almost no healing downtime and high odds. (Drag & hold the unit to see the odds).
A...
Maybe, I can't really argue the point by analysing the code, it's a mix of total traded yield thresholds, the king's mood and random chance etc. Just how these variables are orchestrated is hard to tell.
Maybe a comparison of games and how much tax by which turn, could be more enlightening...
Tax raise %-amount is random, and can be very high especially in short games. If you protest you can hope that the kings demand will be lower the next turn.
I was able to protest a 5% raise in the early game by throwing a food party, next turn the King suggested 3% to which i agreed. That's...
