Culture Squares (purple squares) on Expanding City

Haven't tested enough to be sure, but improving the square you want the city to expand to next seems to help. Build a road or cut forest/jungle and you're likelier to expand that way. It pretty much always goes for a resource if there is one in an adjacent square. I've also never expanded into a...

    Europa Universalis III.

It is yours as soon as you gain control of it. You will get the income from it and any benefits from their buildings. So you really don't have to ask their permission to get their land, but you need their permission to end the war, which they generally won't do unless you give them back atleast...

    Europa Universalis III.

When you capture all of their provinces the meter goes to 100%. When you capture all of Austria it isn't much, but if you conquer a two province state it's quite a leap. Why bother killing his armies, though? As long as you capture his whole land battles are irrelevant. Unless they accept a 99%...

    DG02 - A Fascist Variant Game

I'm having problems applying the patch, probably because I use a miniimage instead of the real DVD. I'll just drop out and let temmage get my spot, don't know when and if I'll get the energy to find a solution.

Am I staring at your back? No, you can trust me, I'm just sharpening my knife.

Asoka should be in the neighbourly category, you misread his values. There are a lot of other factors deciding whether a civ will go to war with you or not. This just tells how useful it is to befriend a civilization. Not how likely they are to go to war.

From Friendly to WAR - just one step. Did anybody experience this?

Mao is one of the least trustworthy leaders, together with Montezuma, Alexander, Catherine, Louis, Qin and Victoria. Asoka, Cyrus, Gandhi, Hatshepsut, Saladin and Washington are the most trustworthy. That is if I read the XML file correctly. Has anyone ever been attacked by one of the latter...

    More than 6 specialists?

Actually, piling super specialists in one city can have huge effects, particularily after the industrial age. Engineers and Prophets in the city with Iron Works can get an insane production capability.

    DG02 - A Fascist Variant Game

The soldier ranking is weird. Training units does not appear to be the #1 way of increasing it. I think we need to research it a little before we can continue. There are a few ways to go about this. One is to ignore that requirement for a while. The second is to atleast allow us to train a...

    DG02 - A Fascist Variant Game

So I don't play Greece that much. Well, then we'd better do Mining -> Bronze Working -> The Wheel -> Iron Working. We'll be working the fish, the gems, the ivory and the hills so we son't need other worker techs for quite a while. Two extra happy resources means that our one city start will work...

Most memorable unit in the civ series

Planet Buster. I just love watching a huge chunk of an enemy continent just disappear. From SMAC, btw.

    Reasons for picking a leader?

UUs. They can make the game for you. Traits can't. A UU rush is absouletly devastating. Only a few UU's has this effect though (mainly Praetorians, Immortals and Quechuas). Traits are fairly important, but not gamebreaking. Starting techs are quite important too, so they all really matter...

    OCC Question

First of all, your cultural boundaries will be absolutely huge. So you'll have quite a bit of territory in which to get resources. Second, you can trade for them. But most importantly, you can use diplomacy to deter your neighbours from attacking you.

    Mali

I prefer flanking promotions myself and just one medic, then rest up in every city I take. Flanking II not only means that you get a 60% withdrawal chance, but you're also immune to First Strikes, which is great against Skirmishers. When starting next to Cyrus, it might be an idea to keep a...

    DG02 - A Fascist Variant Game

Dang! Two gems and two coastal food resources? This is gonna me one heck of a science start. I suggest Fishing first, then straight for Iron Working. Free religion? Are you serious, you're suggesting our people can believe in whatever they want? Screw that! We're fascists, they'll believe...

Civil Service from Oracle - What difficulty level?

True, it might be useful for GOTM and such. And using it once in a while isn't a bad idea, but I wouldn't rely on it if I wanted to develop as a player. If you do not wish to get better, then it might be a good idea, but I thought people visited this forum to become a better player. Everyone can...
