I wouldn't even try to argue the earth was round with you, if you were asserting otherwise. No, actually it's just you.

    What to build first?

Warrior first is not a bad plan if the settings (mapscript, size & speed) and start location are likely to put someone close enough to steal workers off of. But for most cases, worker first is the most consistently successful move. Even with huts on, I'd leave 'scout first' to Civ5 instead.

    Like I said, fruitless discussion.

How long ago? Last I checked, most of the better players were avoiding the terms altogether. I think it would mostly tell you the speaker/poster was working from archived strategy articles from ~5 years ago :p Literally the only economy I could say I "ran" in most of my games would be a...

That implication is a little harder to stumble into, because while it is entirely possible to go through a game without without running a single specialist or working a single cottage, it's literally impossible to avoid producing commerce at all. For me, there's a feedback loop. I don't...

Yes, we are. I posit that it's your fault this happened, though. You started your post with the phrase "the terms do mean something," which is an invitation to discuss the semantics. And by semantical logic: both of these are valid claims. Build one cottage, or run one specialist...

When is bulbing the right choice

There is no smart AI yet. Even K-mod isn't smart AI. It's dumb AI, tweaked to better mimic/counter the general behaviors of better players than the default AI - which I believe was designed to mimic the behaviors of the average noble/prince level players, or at least what the design team saw...

When is bulbing the right choice

I guess tastes will vary, because the few times I've tried playing against humans I found it about as much fun as swimming in a latrine.

Opportunity cost. With an ideal site for a (later) Beuracracy-powered capital, the overall contribution of that cottage is generally less than what it would have been as a farm or workshop. This doesn't mean it *sucks,* only that it (often, not always) could have been better. Of course, much...

    Kidding me?

Technically, the setting he checked implies it would make the game harder - at least on the guy smashing face - not easier. Indeed. And beyond even that, the AI needs to accommodate all skill levels - not just the top few tiers. Without the guidance of forums like this, look at how...

    Fed up with Diplomacy mechanics

I would say that while it's not perfect, it gets the job done. And that building a better system without screwing up the job it's supposed to do (serve as both mechanic for influencing the AI's war-target selection and create tension amidst peaceful cooperation) is a task beyond my own...

    Archery

I would say it's more an intolerance to criticism or skepticism in general, coming from both sides. The 'creative thinkers' aren't any better in this regard, and often excaberate what could have been a mere difference of opinion into a borderline flamewar. Also, many of these conversations...

How do you keep attention to the game

Depends a bit on the status of the game, and what you're trying to do. If it's just generally being unsure where to go next... (assuming not MP) take a break, either to think about it for a bit and figure out where you want to go and how to get there, or just to do something else for a bit and...

Quite often there's a bout of provocation from the advocate of the 'new idea' before it turns into "burn the heathens."

Blimey. Most extreme luxury resource roll ever?

Because "manufactured disease" didn't play so well with the focus groups.
