What's really great about the Civ series since Civ4 is that small bug issues, unit imbalances, builing imbalances and trait uneveness is usually worked out in patches after much gameplay and actuall discussion by actual players like on this particular thread. Firaxis actually listens to feedback...
You have to go into "advanced setup" options when you start the game and the drop down menu named maps has the FULL list of map types available to you including Mesopotamia if you pre-ordered from steam.

Yes and this guide has a few self contradicting ommisions as well, but thats the fun part of being a CIV addict, once we do get all the correct information and adjust our gameplay accordingly they will release a patch and we get to start all over again!!:eekdance:
