    Stone or Marble?

Well, I usually chop the GW and sth even before hooking the stone (unless it is in BFC). Marble is essential, even with an industrious leader to get an almost sure chance at ToA. So Marble is probably better

Without the Mids (SSE/WE Immortal wt)

For Warlord (no bts here), if you are not industrious, you will need preferably marble and stone and very good production in capitol, but it is definitely doable at least at emperor level(where i play). Lot of woods help too for the early ones. Perhaps you cannot get the full wahoo, but along...

Without the Mids (SSE/WE Immortal wt)

I use (warlords at emp level) very often a strat inspired by Obsolete (but being less good than him, less extrem), but i try an earlier expansion too. I may even build some cottages ;) My experience is that you are indeed very weak in the early game, and can afford it only if your diplomacy is...

    SE vs CE: map differences?

polobo In fact, i disagree largely with the OP. In my mind, huge maps favor largely SE over CE because of the production factor. Pushing all the infrastructure takes a long time in a CE due to the lack of hammers. SE on the other hand, has both more hammers and bigger growth for whip, so it...

    SE vs CE: map differences?

Some Great Priests settled in your capitol can easily put you in the black at 100% with 6 cities. Add Ankhor What? for more goodies So yeah, on emperor+, Priest specialists are a strong play in the early-mid game. Later they may fell a bit behind though.

Some advice for people trying to beat wonder addiction.

There is a need for sinergy between wonders and your strategy : ToA/GLh couple has already beend mentioned, but there is some others : * GW/Stonehenge eventually Oracle give you a nice supply of early prophets in Warlords (no bts here, i'm on mac). So Ankhor What? becomes even more powerfull...

The Immortal Challenge 4: Flight of the Phoenix

1S is imho better for early growth. Now, an important point is whether you will run CE or SE ? I think Memhed traits ask for SE, but the 2W 1S spot has more cottage potential btw, i think that, with Memhed, an early monarchy is a very good move

Post liberalism path and civics ?

I'm indeed in the 6-8 cities range, prepping for war. I aim for at least 12-16 cities afterward. Oxford may be a reason, I try to get it fast, but perhaps not enough. I generally dont put IW in capitol

Post liberalism path and civics ?

@future yes of course i'm in pacifism. And the Stonehenge/GW/ToA combo get you many settled GPs (at least 8-10 at that point). Hmm. i should probably emphasis more astro and the guild/banking. it's true i'm late on those. The switch to FR is also one concern, as I 'm using pacifism at that point.

Post liberalism path and civics ?

On Warlord, I get Liberalism first easily on monarch and most of the time on emperor level. Strong beeline, but i usually can completly backfill with selling at worst edu on the last turn before, and on emperor sometimes lib itself. However, my tech lead vanish quickly beyond this point, and...

    I hate cottages

Hmm. depends. An Obsolete's style Super Capital can do wonders !!! :D In a recent game(Warlord/monarch), i out teched (with Memhed) Liz whole empire with it and a secondary science city, all others cities were just making some money. Granted, it was quite a bit food overpowered (five...

    Most Flexible Leader?

Fin is not flexible in my mind, try to do a long war for example. Fin will boost the CE economy, but it is quite a rigid way of playing. Strong, but you must follow the rail. Org, Spi, Exp are 3 traits that are flexible by nature. the advantages they give are subtle, but can be leveraged...

Horse Archers - why the hate?

My best game was with keshiks (98000+ in warlord/monarch), second best game with Cirrus (win before 1500), and it boiled down to 2 things imho : - reinforcements are fast on the front line - the surviving FlankII ones get quickly insane promotions (Non warlord unit level 10 anyone ?, GG cav...

    Can Openers: theory and practice

my can openers have usually four legs. And a Cyrrus immortal or a keshik will often make it up to gunships with an insane level of XP (dont remember the exact number of my best but >120). The best parts of those high cavs (or camel and keshiks) with GG attached is they can have up to 90% of...

    Finally, my first Monarch win

Nothing wrong with cleaning your own continent. I once had to sunk more than 100 frigates & galleon of Monty while i was colonizing my cleaned continent. When I was running out of destroyers, i would use transports. One of them ended something like level 8 ! ;)
