    Firaxis civs as City-States

I'm still a bit worried. My mind hearkens back to the days of Civ Gold where were over a hundred civs, including nations that couldn't be civs on their own so they were grouped together (AKA the West Indies and Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia as Gran Colombia).

    Firaxis civs as City-States

So it seems like every civilization that's ever gotten big is getting made into a custom civ nowadays. While that is good to see, it does raise a big issue when it comes to city states, because there's probably only so many times you can substitute a civ whenever you promote a city-state to...

Colonialist Legacies: Histories of the New World | Colonial + Pre-Colonial civs

The question is easier to answer than Mandela's case. Benito's first langage is Zapotec, but he engaged with everybody in Spanish, and Spanish is the language we associate with Mexico. It's more like Catherine's case (who was a German by birth). A bigger pitfall would be Benito's accent...

Juarez, Pearson, and Rizal would be the easiest to find voice actors for. I can't find a lot of good Iñupiaq resources at the present to write lines with. Among Native American languages we'd probably have best luck with the Cree. Haven't checked Dené resources. Xhosa would have good resources...

Jose Rizal eats duck fetuses! Jose Rizal caused a ladyboy infestation! Jose Rizal allowed The Nutshack to happen!

The Trung Sisters would be hard to voice. Finding a female Civ player is hard. Finding Vietnamese civ players is hard. Finding a Vietnamese female Civ player is hard... and you probably need two of them. XD Also, would the Mandela LH speak English or Xhosa? Now Tagalog would be fun to...

Colonialist Legacies: Histories of the New World | Colonial + Pre-Colonial civs

Probably as much as there is between Ancient and Modern Greek. Ancient Hebrew is used in the Bible. Modern Hebrew is the official language of the State of Israel. Firaxis zigzags in this respect. Alexander the Great speaks Ancient Greek, but Wu Zetian speaks Modern Mandarin Chinese where she...

Also, we'd have to decide between Modern or Ancient Hebrew.

Take it from two Spanish speakers... country-specific accents are tricky! If you get some one from Puerto Rico (such as myself) and have them voice Juarez or Bolívar imitating a Mexican or Venezuelan accent, it would probably sound like a caricature. And unlike with a long gone ancient leader...

If any other 3d leaderheads come around, I will keep language resources handy. I'm already working on recording speech for Mansa Musa. Yes, Bambara voice acting. I may not be a native speaker, but disregarding the slight tonal aspects, Bambara phonology is very simple, and comparable to stuff...

Colonialist Legacies: Histories of the New World | Colonial + Pre-Colonial civs

I think given Mandela is the leader, the springbok might be too much a symbol of apartheid-era SA. Which is why most of the teams changed their nickname to the Proteas, except for rugby, which is the sport of white people anyway, and that Mandela insisted they keep the springbok as the mascot...

Methinks "Ubuntu" is a good name for a UA, even though I have no idea what the actual UA will be.

Colonialist Legacies: Histories of the New World | Colonial + Pre-Colonial civs

The 2nd one kind of baffles me. I mean, it's the coat of arms of South Africa, but usually to represent White South Africans, people have a Boer civ (which the Pangolin does), and for the native black South Africans, they have Civs like the Zulu. I suspect that might actually be the Xhosa or...

Leader and voice discussions for popular Civs - let's discuss!

Okay, next Civ. ISRAEL/HEBREWS This is a popular choice for a civ that has often been overlooked by Firaxis, Israel or the Hebrews, which often encompasses both the ancient, Biblical Kingdom of Israel and the modern Nation of Israel at once. While several good leader choices exist for...
