    New Legalism

Can you get temples with Legalism?

Why cant I steal Machu Pichu

Puppets are better then your own cities.

When conquering, you have to decide if you'd rather pay 5 gold/turn and spend the turns building a courthouse, or raze/replace, or puppet. The first two both involve opportunity costs, and the first has an ongoing cost. Is control worth 5 gold/turn and 5-30 turns spent building a...

The Benefits (or Lack Thereof) of a River Settlement vs. 1 Tile Away

If I'm settling a city I know will be a borderland battleground, I use this reasoning to put it one tile away from a river. It makes defense dramatically simpler, and counterattacks easier.

    Floating gardens are amazing.

The benefits of the floating garden don't really start accumulating until you have 20+ food in the city, anyway, so I don't think it's a big negative to say that you can't afford to build them right away. I make floating gardens my 3rd or 4th building in most cities, after...

Start a world war and make tons of gold from it. Exploit?

I'd prefer the Civ3 (or was it Civ4 vanilla?) model, with a slight twist. You can trade per turn items for lump sum items, but if the deal gets broken off for any reason (war, you lose the resource, etc), no one will give you lump sum for per turn. The twist would be that you could "make it...

    DoF-- worth it or no?

I'm pretty sure it's true. I had a DoF with someone last game, and the mouseover only showed positive relationship modifiers. Then I cancelled the DoF and denounced them, and immediately there were modifier about them desiring my lands and wonders, in addition to the denunciation hit. So I...

Not original, but a warmongering strategy I've come to enjoy

And the last on the right hand side, unless you really need the happiness. In fact, when the time comes to make that decision, you could compare Protectionism to Military Caste in terms of + happiness.

Not original, but a warmongering strategy I've come to enjoy

I'd suggest avoiding the right-hand side of Honor, after the 15% military bonus. The +happy with garrisons isn't spectacular, and although Professional Army sounds really appealing, the fact that you don't have as many units as you did in Civ4 makes it a little less appealing. Get the first...

    How to manage a island-city ?

Well, if you're going for a cultural win, and aren't faced with imminent invasion, it'll slow you down. I'd drop a settler over there, but wait to build the city until I had a plan as to how I was going to use the resources.

    Need for Large City Games

Here's some goals that are not aided by burning through the tree aggressively: Using a given UU. It sucks to get Civil Service early when playing Persia, because it means you don't get to build a bunch of Immortals. Although I've never played Japan, I probably won't prioritize Rifling until...

How Good is the Aztec UB?

I don't see how that's relevant. Sure, it's not a bonus to a building you'd build anyway. But if the cost-benefit analysis is good enough, then it's worth building, and it'll add a net benefit to the city, even with opportunity costs. I wouldn't build it over settlers and warriors, but once...

    Crash upon loading savegames

Not 100% reproducible, maybe one out of four times I try to load a save game, it AVs. Here's the (useless) stack trace; if someone from the dev team gave me access to symbols, I'd be happy to help pinpoint the issue. > CvGameCoreDLLFinal Release.dll!06e5e109() [Frames below may be...

    Civilo-Table-ia

I'm too lazy to actually go edit the spreadsheet, but here's some suggestions: Gold tab: How does building a mine give "possible 1 Gold Bonus"? Are you talking about mining luxury resources? Germany/Ottomans don't get increased gold from barbarian encampments, they get a 50% chance of a...

    catapults at distance

It only works when attacking a square that has a base movement value of 1. If you attack a hill or forest, I'm almost positive that a one-MP unit then cannot move again. Yet another reason why it's a good idea to try to stay on forests and hills.
