464 marathon emancipation. Stole about a dozen relics from the AI, most giving me Affinity upgrades. Emancipation doesn't scale on marathon, you have still only 1000 points of units to spend.
Stations are annoying. One usually pops up where I want to settle my first outpost. Longer trade duration also reduces the OPness of TRs, as they will not be the optimal ones for most of the time.
Regarding trade route management I found a tip here in the forum, that completele solved the problem for me. You can change the TRADE_DURATION in GlobalDefines.xml from 25 to 100. It feels like an other game now.
My last game on marathon I would have won on turn 590, but I hadn't the patience to wait the 56 turns for the Mindflower to bloom. I think all victory types can be achieved in under 600 turns on marathon.
Which is good, because you can plunder it again whith your purity 1 scout. On marathon it gives 180 science/ 75 energy, which makes it worth to spend 3 virtues into might. Haven't figured out how fast nests will respawn, can someone please give me a hint?
with Shoshone on a huge highlands map + raging barbs and marathon I usually find like 50 ruins even on immortal. This is more than enough for a head start in every category of the game (science, gold, culture, faith, military). The landgrab UA of the Shoshone is useful all game long.
not like:
Hiawatha. His empire of 70 cities next to you does not give you a very relaxed game.
like:
Shaka. He just razed two cities that Hiawatha had forward settled to me. He also conquered Hongkong and Wittenburg and now is common foe of the whole world. That gives me the opportunity for...
Hiawatha. In one of my last games his empire of 70 cities (huge map, immortal) declared war after war on me. He had the most production of all civs all game long, and a tech lead most of the time. At the end I could pass him with a lot of RAs und Hubble, but he destroyed my Sience Victory (had...
On a huge map i usually find 50 ruins with my pathfinders even on immortal (raging barbs ;) ). This leads to fast having the most pop (cap of size 10), biggest army (6 Bowfinders), a lot of SPs (definitely via the suggested route a), a tech lead and an enhanced religion before others even have...
Well done. I only disagree on venice. In all of the last four games I had Enrico on the map, and in every game I was able to kill his first Great Merchant. After crippling his forces I gave him peace, and he quickly offered me a DoF then. He is a good trading and RA partner due to his trade...
As Shoshone I have good success with harrassing my neighbors as soon as I find them with my scouting CBs. Kill their units until they are willing to give you all their stuff. If there is a useful city in the deal, keep it. Other gifted cities you can burn down. As long as you don't conquer any...
My favorite settings at the moment are huge / marathon / highlands / raging barbs / immortal / Shoshone or Askia. I first open Tradition (take more stuff/finish later) then dip into Liberty to get the free worker. Depending on the barb situation I then take honor (pillage money from barb camps...
I often invest in CSs with interesting UUs. In my current Shoshone immortal game i have collected 4 keshiks, 4 mandekalu cav, a hussar and a siphahi. The keshiks where very helpful to whittle down the gazillion of the defenders of Assur and finally the city itself.
