Lain, any chance there's a description of your youtube games out there? I'm wondering if you have one where you go for science win in particular, especially if corporations were used.

    Help for a returning player

Thank you for the replies. Very helpful. I think in my last game I left forges too long. For a warmonger game I want a city with granary, barracks and forge, correct? Some cities will have library too, obviously, but I don't think I need libraries everywhere, right?

    Help for a returning player

It's been a long time since I've played civ 4. I was able to beat Emperor all the time and Immortal some of the time when I last played, but I've forgotten a lot. I have a few specific questions, I may post a game later to get advice once I've recovered some of my familiarity since I think that...

+1 Range to Artillery units makes AI unable to defend itself

The problem with air to take a city is 57 turns after you start bombing with 8 jet bombers, the walls health may be gone. I'm having trouble finding a good use for air other than the convenience of not having to move them around. 85 strength vs 110+ cities just takes forever to do anything.

    Placing cities on Resources

I don't think that is true. Filthyrobot settled on rice in one of his playthroughs (I think Spain?) and got an extra food in his capitol. The resource was not removed, but as Lord Katana said, it did not benefit from the watermill +1 food bonus.

    Thoughts on the Civics tree?

My concern with ring/web type BE approaches is that they are essentially the same as Civ 5. You pick a path early and it is always optimal to follow that path until the end. The end is always where the big bonus is, so you want to get there ASAP. Diverging briefly to another ideology just...

    Apollo too hard?

I found I can generally still faceroll, even on Pangea. There are sometimes where multi dow's can cause problems. Especially since it seems like you cannot get peace until one civ is completely terminated. The solution is to just bribe your neighbors into wars in the early turns while you catch up.

    Some questions.

    1) Cost goes up 5% per additional city founded. You can reduce this penalty with the knowledge virtue tree, but that tree is rather weak otherwise. 2) Yes, this is the only way. Additionally some virtue techs unlock new units. 3) With the exception of contact, raising virtue level faster will...

    Industry New Best Virtue?

Even these are local. It's like they took civ 5's system, removed luxuries and said "Yep, all done."

Post patch Detailed Trade Route Discussion

Augh, sorry, I have to comment on this. Comparative advantage would state that Saudi Arabia sends oil (production) to Argentina. I.e. Argentina receives production from the trade route. This production received would be more efficient than diverting population in Argentina to production. So...

    New Patch First Impressions

I find that my tech path is still fundamentally uninteresting. I tech the early science buildings and then spam techs of the appropriate color to keep up in affinity points on Apollo. Choose Red/Yellow/Blue is not an interesting tech choice. There's not even a point to going for the Affinity 4...
