How does Warlords affect vanilla Civ 4

Hi, A few questions about Warlords (I have Warlords, but have not installed yet). 1. First off, I'm right in the middle of a long game in the vanilla version, if I install Warlords before I finish off the game, will it be affected? 2. Can you still run the vanilla version, if so, will...

    Civ Versions

Hi, I have Civ 4 and really love it so far, never had Civ 3, but am considering buying Civ 3 complete as Civ 4 has me really excited about Civ series in general. Will it be waste of money for me to do so... do most Civ 4 users still use Civ 3 or has it been completely removed from your...

I have read elsewhere in the forum about people playing in OCC mode. What is OCC?

Sorry but I absolutely HATE Civ 4 !

No benefit, except it looks good, I for one would not buy the game if it did not have the nice 3d graphics, I would stick to Civ 3. All games are now 3d, why should Civ4 be any different? One benefit of nice graphics is that it gives you a better feeling that you are really in the game and...

    1.08 to 1.09

First of all forgive me if this has been addressed elsewhere (I searched, but did not find the answer) I was one of the lucky ones (or unlucky) that was able to download and install 1.08. My question is...is it ok to upgrade from 1.08 to 1.09, or do I need to do anything special first?

    So this paging file...

As stated earlier in this thread, a 20-30gb swap file is crazy, the rule of thumb is 1.5x your physical ram. I would think that a swap file as large as 20-30gb would slow Windows down rather than help the situation. I also do not let Windows manage this, I set the min and max to the same...

Weird boot-up error - anybody else experience this?

I also have left civ4 in the cd tray since buying it. Seems your problem may be related to your bio's boot settings, it might be trying to boot from the cd, and freaks out when it reads the civ4 cd (nonbootable) for whatever reason?

    Unplayable

I understand your frustration, but to say it is not your computer may not be the answer. I have played over 20 games now, large maps, small maps etc and have yet to have a single freeze or crash. I do agree that in the late game stage things tend to slow down, I have been in the habit of...

    Burned by 2K and Firaxis

I'm another that can play right out of the box, over 30 hours logged with zero crashes. It does slow down after 3 hours of play or so, I save and restart the game and am good to go for another few hours (I agree there is a memory leak problem). Other than that, I have no complaints, but do...

What the heck is wrong with you people?

You must not buy to many games, this is a very common problem with almost all new releases. Sue them?? it will put them out of business and there will be no more Civ period. I have read that they released it early to beef up their books so that they can stay in business. I say if you do not...

I'm very happy with Civ 4

I agree, the game has a big memory issue. I tried to play a large map and it seems to work fine, but it gets slow much faster (I save, quit and restart the game and am good to go for awhile, (classic memory leak). I have 1 gig of ram, 3.06 p4 and a 6800gt - 256 video card. I also have a very...
