As stated earlier in this thread, a 20-30gb swap file is crazy, the rule of thumb is 1.5x your physical ram. I would think that a swap file as large as 20-30gb would slow Windows down rather than help the situation. I also do not let Windows manage this, I set the min and max to the same...

I also have left civ4 in the cd tray since buying it. Seems your problem may be related to your bio's boot settings, it might be trying to boot from the cd, and freaks out when it reads the civ4 cd (nonbootable) for whatever reason?

Agree...definately a memory leak, When it starts to slow down after about 3 hrs or so for me, I save quit and restart the game and I'm good to go for a few more hrs.
