    Balance: Frigates

I'm not sure I understand this. Frigates alone can't take a city; they only help weaken it. You will still need land units or privateers to actually take it. And Civ has always been a game where a tech lead invariably gives you a huge military advantage. It's no different from saying that...

Has the difficulty level been increased in a recent patch?

I would define it as someone who makes gameplay decisions based on considerations other than winning the game. For example, if you like to roleplay, or if you treat Civ as a empire-builder sim (and like to horde wonders even if it hurts your game), then you are a casual gamer. A competitive...

    Balance: Frigates

I don't see what's wrong with having to build your own navy to counter frigates. I think it is a good thing that players are forced to build their own navies if they wish to counter enemy ships. The whole point is to make navy important. I recall previous iterations of civ where naval units...

Uhh, ever heard of this thing called Inquisitors? That's what they are there for...

    Fall Patch changes discussion thread

I think your problem is that you conquered city states. The warmonger penalty has always been incredibly high for those who conquer city states, because it counts as taking one city from a civ that has only that one city. It is something that definitely needs to be fixed (mainly because it...

Has the difficulty level been increased in a recent patch?

I can never understand players who insist on playing high difficulty levels and then complain the game is too hard or forces them to play a certain way just to survive. If you want to play "casually", drop to Prince or below - that's what those difficulties are there for!

    Austria atrocious, Greece great

I'm not saying that Venice's UA has no drawbacks of its own. I'm referring to the OP's point which is that in BNW, CS allies are much more valuable, and in this respect, Austria's UA works directly against gathering CS allies. Your response to the OP's point was that the same could be said of...

    Austria atrocious, Greece great

The difference is that Venice can puppet any CS it wants, including the allies of other civs, whereas Austria can only puppet CSes that it is allied with. So when Austria exercises it UA, it is directly reducing its number of CS allies, and with it any votes and bonuses granted by that CS.

I don't understand the need to cap the amount of GPT that the AI is willing to grant. This basically means that you can never get fair value for anything worth more than 15 GPT, which equates to a mere 2.5 luxuries. 15 GPT is also a very trivial sum in the industrial age and beyond, where you...

    stressed when 1 turn remaining?

There is a huge difference between getting a save editor to give yourself advantages and mere reloading when you made a mistake. When you reload, you don't get any bonuses apart from the opportunity to learn from your mistakes and do things differently this time. You must still play the game...

    stressed when 1 turn remaining?

That's ridiculous. Reloading has been part and parcel of virtually every single player game. If you fail/die, you reload and try again. No one is being "cheated" of anything; certainly not the AI which is just a bunch of code. On the other hand, if the AI does have undisclosed advantages over...

Another Blow Against Piety: Chance for a Great Prophet

Well, technically since you know about this game mechanic in advance, you do have the ability to "react" to it by simply accumulating more faith earlier in case you are unlucky and take 10+ turns to pop a GP. That said, I've racked my brains but can't think of any good reason why this random...

    Why did the AI lie?

The AI lies because the human player can lie too. It would be unfair if the AI always kept its promises while the human is free to break them. Btw the AI doesn't always lie; I've had games where they did keep their promise and stopped converting my cities. So it probably depends on how...

"Dumbest" decisions in your civ career?

My dumbest decision was accidentally accepting a peace offer which involved giving away a few of my cities to the AI. I was winning the war, mind you, and when the screen popped up I had a brain fart and thought that the AI was offering me his cities in exchange for peace. Needless to say, I had...

    stressed when 1 turn remaining?

I play on Emperor currently and generally have been successful in beating the AI to wonders by reloading. So I don't think the AI cheats (at least not in this regard). It might have just been an isolated coincidence - the AI does not necessarily pursue the same build order each time you reload...
