Thanks for all suggestions.
I haven't got a Win95 CD, and unless Microsoft lets you download it for free then I don't see how I can get my hands on it risk free.
Of course, I wasn't thinking straight. It works the other way around, a 32-bit program will work on 64-bit OS.
They could make two versions, 32 and 64 bit. I don't know how much extra work that would take, but I doubt it would be worth it.
There are more than one version of Civ2, I'm pretty sure my version is 16 bit. When I run it, there is always a task called Ntvdm.exe that starts and run alongside the Civ2 process. Ntvdm.exe is for running 16-bit programs on 32-bit Windows.
Is the patch for 16-bit Civ2, or is it for 32-bit...
What is 1UPT? An abbreviation for what? It would be nice to spell it out at least once in the opening post. I have never seen it before, and Google could not help me. Don't assume that everybody knows.
They have made the perfect game five times already, how can they make improvements big enough to make a 6th game worth buying? Better AI perhaps, what else?
So I take it that pretty much all games will work on Win10 if they did work on Win7 or Win8.1.
If you have a 64-bit system and want to play a 16-bit game (like Civ2), what are your options? I don't think I can install my old 32-bit XP as dual-boot on a new PC. And I'm not aware of any way to...
I have three Windows options; W7, W8.1 and W10. I can use either one of these, and 8.1 is my least favorite. The most important thing is that my programs and games works, but as long as they do work, my most liked Windows versions are in this order:
W7 Ultimate (I love it)
W10 Home (It's...
Thanks. I loaded a save from before Gunpowder, built one Barracks and the maintenance was 1.
Just another example of lacking details in the Civilopedia.
I think I recall that the maintenance cost for Barracks is 1 gold.
So I was surprised when I looked into it and found this.
It should not be 2 gold?
The maintenance is the same on all levels right? Anyway this game is only on King level. And other city improvements have normal...
We, the Greeks, have accidentally made a food route to Egypt.
The route goes from Sparta to Helipolis. The two cities are on the same continent but are far apart.
Sparta: Size 24, working 19 tiles and producing 116 arrows.
Sparta is trading with:
Helipolis +32
Helipolis +32
Helipolis food -1...
I've tried it now. At first it worked impressive, my CPU usage dropped from 100% to 23%, and the fan slowed down to the 1st notch. The game became noticeably less responsive but not so slow that it's a problem.
But when I tried to save the game, it just quit. Same problem as geofelt reported in...
Who are we?
We call (or used to call) ourselves CFC (Civilization Fanatics Center), so why does it now say Civilization Fanatics' Forums?
I also see that the address is forums.civfanatics.com, has this changed?
I still have the habit of referring to us as CFC, but perhaps CFF is more correct.
I have never seen a game on both those platforms that was not superior on Amiga. What about the sound, was that okay on PC? Other games from that era that I tried on PC were horrible, especially the sound. The PC sound was sometimes worse than that of Commodore 64! Maybe it has to do which...
