    Quick tips for newer players?

If you have Kilimanjaro on your map, either settle near it or at least make a road to it and send your military units there on pilgrimages to get the Altitude Training promotion. That extra move on hills can be incredibly useful.

Fixing broken Hall of fame and removing surplus records

This does work, it's a shame it has to be done after every game. You'd think Firaxis would have fixed this by now. Also, in my case modded games don't appear in the HoF at all even though I see them in the DB file. Any ideas?

    Spy or Diplomat ?

If you're playing as Brazil you're probably going for a cultural victory. Certain World Congress resultions can help you out. Diplomats can help you bribe other civs to vote for those resolutions you want. But yeah, if you're behind, use spies to steal tech first.

    1) I believe if you delete the files out of C:\Users\your_name\Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Replays, that will remove all HoF games. 2) I'm running Win 8.1 and Civ IV with no issues and didn't have to do anything fancy to get it working. Maybe try the Tech Support forum.

Yes, and the pig tile would have to be withing your cultural borders, otherwise the most you could do would be building a road to it. In the scenario you describe, if this was the only pig tile in your empire this would give you +1 :health: in every city, +2 :health: with a supermarket. If you...

    Condensed tips for beginners?

Keep in mind that regardless of the overall diplomatic situation, you're going to earn a sizable diplomatic demerit for declaring war on the vassal. I know, I know... you're actually declaring war on their master. But in the Civ IV game engine/rules, that makes no difference. So after the war...

    Civ 4 BTS Questions

As long as possible. Usually until some other civs start running Emancipation and causing  problems for me. So, quite late, i.e. until I'm ready to do my late game civics switch (from Monarchy to Rep, Bureaucracy to FS, Slavery to Emancipation, FM to SP (if I have a large empire and/or...

    Don't you love it when...

Another favourite of mine: Your tech-fiend neighbour has one or two juicy, handy techs they won't trade because monopoly and all that and... your GP farm pops a Great Spy.

Yeah, I always use a mounted unit, usually a chariot, for exactly this reason--Scouts/Explorers can't attack so you have to go out of your way and take some chances with them to get them the additional XPs to get to that final level. The (rare) exception to using a mounted unit is if one of...

    Music to Civ by

I usually just listen to the Civ soundtrack until I get to the modern era. There are some tracks for that era that I like, but several that I don't, so I add a few of my own. Unlike many other players, however, I don't like playing popular music in the background--I find it too distracting...

Every now and then when I'm playing as Rome I get the Swordsmen quest. Free City Raider I for all Praets? Oh yes please!

One thing you could try is go to Options/Graphics and enable "Show Health Bars". That should make each unit stand out a little better.

    Medieval/Renaissance Warmonger Strategies?

Everyone else covered Renaissance, so I'll stick to Medieval. Techs: I like to go after Machinery, Civil Service, Feudalism, Engineering, and Guilds, roughly in that order. I'm often pursuing the Liberalism free tech, so I usually go after CS as soon as I can to snag Paper and then...

    some good 80's songs...

Pretty much this until I get to the modern era. There are some tracks in the modern soundtrack I like, some I can't stand (sorry, not at my Civ computer right now, can't remember which ones). When I reach the modern era I'll switch the soundtrack source folder in the game options to one...
