I use the 'Line' tool on the Strategy layer quite extensively, and lets me do dot maps without exiting C4. Only downside is they aren't saved in the save files, so it all dissappeared when you save+quit. :(

I tend to cottage spam a LOT, so will often chop granary and library into a city - both to clear the forest of grassland squares to be cottaged, and to get my two most important buildings up early.

Exactly, the real power from the Creative/Financial combo comes from being able to pull in more science, whilst still running Culture @ 20% and getting +5 happy faces - 2 from culture, 2 from cheap theatre and 1 from colluseum.

They had something about blockading trade routes in CTP didnt they? That game had a few good ideas.

Both are small mods i installed for this walkthrough. The upper right hand corner numbers are turns passed/total turns + percentage turns. And the leader names on the demographic screen are part of a mod that shows your total beakers researched. You'll also notice the Domestic Advisor...

I usually use Liberalism (which i ALWAYS get first) to either get: Gunpowder (for muskets), Printing Press (extra $$ combined with Free Speech and Free Religion) or Nationalism (Cossacks!!)

The actual tech cost doesn't change, its the number of beakers applied to it. Say your getting 100 beakers / turn from your commerce + improvements. If your researching a tech everyone else has, your beakers will go towards say... 120. Therefore, a 600 beaker tech can be had in 5 turns...

Get to the mid-game and i'd say Russia by far. If you've done things properly, you'll be pulling 1000 gold/turn. From here you can: Rush-Buy your most advance units. Up to 10/turn. No-one can keep up with production like that. Rush-Buy temples + catherdrals in your 3 top culture...
