I just started playing and already having performance issues. Too like five minutes to load to the initial menu. Also, my very first turn in the game took like a minute to process. If turn one is taking that long, it will be unplayable after a few dozen turns.
Any common tips to increase...
Events that I consider stupid. The hurricane event... Uhh.. I finally managed to get a courthouse, granary, a forge, and a library built in that coastal city with low hammers, and now this. It also seems to frequently happen the very next turn after you finish building something.
The idiotic...
I went through a PBEM phase and enjoyed it. The delays pissed me off though and I hated having to wait a week - 10 days to make a move. Also the game was going to last like 20 years at the pace we were going and I knew we'd never finish it.
I too prefer single player. I am a builder, and not...
Usuaully most AI cities are on the coast. Just build a fleet of like 10 battleships, a carrier if you have flight, and load up about 20 or 30 tanks or marines and just sail up his coast line, using the BSs to bring down his defensive value and then attacking from sea.
The AI never catches on...
I'm curious why Spiritual didn't make your list, even as a mid level trait?

Anyone else have problems with loading mods on steam? I keep getting this message that says "application is already running" or something like that. I have had mods work in the past, but recently deleted the game and then reinstalled it and this started. It effects both content that came with...
If you keep getting scientists, it may be that you have a library in that city and thus 2 scientist specialists are all that you can run. If you have a courthouse, the city adviser will probably run a spy. The AI seems to have a thing for spies for some reason.
If you're in caste system, you...
What the above poster said about the conditions necessary to upgrade.
My personal rule of thumb is I never upgrade anything that I can just build. It's not worth it. I only upgrade units that are advanced enough or have certain promotions that I can't outright build them.
I love when a war erupts and the very next turn both sides demand that I cancel agreements with the other. The very next turn after that both sides request that I join the war on their side. In the end, their war that had nothing to do with me ends up costing me -3 or -4 relationship with both...
Cottages still work with non-financial. It really doesn't make all that much difference in the end if your cities are well placed.
I find I can usually bulb philosophy and trade it for two or three techs which gives a nice boost if I am falling behind.
Consider building Great Wall. You will...
Probably Elizabeth of England. I love the trait combination. I also love Redcoats. They come at the perfect time as I tend to war at about the rifleman age.
