How long does it take you to complete the tech race?

It's 1395 AD, and I was playing around 3, 4 hours a day at one point. It's at diety, but I havn't benifited much from AI trade because my reputation was soiled early on. I was trading lux with Persia when they set up an embargo against us with Russia, effectively ending the trade. For some...

How long does it take you to complete the tech race?

How long would it usually take you to research all the tech (should you happen to not finish the game by then?) I'm just wondering, because I've been playing for about 1 week now and I've only just entered the industrial age with full science slider. Is this normal, or pretty slow? I AM...

Too much water in Civ 3

several things spring to mind. If you want more land in general, you could just try using a bigger world setting, like Large or Huge. If you already use Continent Huge with 60% water, you're pretty much at the brim of CivIII's playability. You CAN generate bigger maps in the map editor...

RE: Keeping up with Diety AI

Yeah, it was a PTW save, I forgot to mention. Regarding the food tiles, I tried to place the cities around these as best I could, but I didn't want to cramp other cities space, so about 3 of the food resources on the island I couldn't get within borders. The workers I set to automate seem to...

RE: Keeping up with Diety AI

Here's the saved game link that Spoonwood asked for. I didn't plan on hijacking the thread much more. Details: Deity Archipelago - Huge 24 Civs (2 destroyed, Celts, Russians) Currently Researching: Theory of Gravity Because There's so many civs on such a massive map the diplomacy...

    Keeping up with deity AI

What about catching others up with there Tech? I'm playing a game at the moment, huge map, 24 civs. There are a couple of civs trailing the bottom, stuck at early middle ages. The bulk of the civs, including me, are just approaching the industrial ages, but 4 civs, the Egyptians, the...

are extra sources of luxury only good for trade?

Can you still work a lux tile if you've traded it with another civ?

are extra sources of luxury only good for trade?

The in-game civilopedia doesn't explain this very well. If I have, say, 2 sources of gems, will this ammount to extra happy faces? Or will only 1 of those sources have effect? Cos I happen to have 5 extra sources of Gems and 5 extra sources of Silk, which are quite valuable. Should I trade...

Why are they always annoyed with me?

Almost all the time, when a meet a new civ, they are default annoyed with me. Is it something I said? or did? And there opinions seem to switch randomly around. It's almost annoying how, after maybe moving a troop into there territory by mistake, I'm suddenly hated across the globe. What's...

Taking advantage of an AI war

Okay, here's the save that you asked for. I only played 10 or so turns since yesterday, so there hasn't been any city swapping, but the Ottomans have gone global and tried to recruit everyone to fight the Celts. There's one Celt city on my island that I might crush out if they start losing...

Taking advantage of an AI war

The two big guys in my current game, the Celts and the Ottomans, just declared war on eachother, and there's fight right across there borders. I'm playing on Deity, so I want to take advantage of the situation as best I can. These guys are pretty tough, so the loser will probably get eliminated...

    Flood plains

I was lucky enough to be able to park my capitol on a Floodplain with 4 wheat within it's radius, aswell as next to a patch of hills that contained gold. That factor is probably the main reason I'm still alive having made a jump from Monarchy to Deity.

    Keeping up with deity AI

To add to this, also note that you must not trade like this over multiple turns. If, for example you trade writing with the Japanese, you must trade it with all the other civs straight away. If you leave it even one turn, the Japanese will most likely trade it with everyone else on the...

    Flood plains

A river running through a desert creates floodplains, AmIRight? so if Saltpeter is on a desert square, settling in the desert near a river with the Saltpeter in your borders creates a livable city with access to Saltpeter. Otherwise you've got a dummy-town stuck in the middle of a desert just...

    Flood plains

Oh man, you're telling me this now? I've gone and placed all my central cities around tons of flood plane squares for the harvest boost :(
