That´s one of the few things that actually make me "proud" of Germany. During the last years, a lot of Jews were immigrating to Berlin, for example - from Israel! :)

Well, it depends on who you listen to. SIPRI says Germany is third place with a market share of 10%, while the IISS says Germany is fourth after the UK (12,2%) with 3,7%. I think SIPRI´s estimation is more likely, though.

The latest deals I know of were Submarines ( 214 class) to Israel, Greece, South Korea, Pakistan. Turkey also wants some of them. Then Leopard IIs, Dingos and PzH2000 (self-propelled howitzer) to Chile, Brasil, Greece, Singapore and Turkey. And lots of small arms everywhere. Other customers...

Well, I still speak Platt :). Most just don´t use it outside their home, and it is still (or again) being taught at school (although optional). I always use it to confuse the Freiburgians here. I don´t understand them, they don´t understand me :D.

I moved from Hannover to Freiburg recently... and that ad is spot on. I could not even buy a pack of cigarettes the first day because I just could not understand a damn single word until I told people that I´m from "elsewhere" and then they at least tried to speak Hochdeutsch :D.

I´d say you can use both, "abbiegen" is more common, though. To me, "einbiegen" has a certain... "amtsdeutsch"-feeling to it. I´ve only heard it in driving school so far.

I like that idea :) (although I´ve always been downright terrible at Latin) ! Perhaps make it a compulsory secondary language in school, not the "official" language, as I think we´ve had enough top-down decision-making. Ad augusta per angusta! Oh that would be SO nerdy, but unbelievably cool...

Well, they still had Australia where they could send their undesirables to, so I guess it´s alright by hindsight :p. Anyway, Happy Independence Day :) !
