Is there a game re-play like there was in an older version of Civ where you can see the whole world and how culture expanded and where wonders were built over time?
That's part of the reason I love doing the GOTM. No-reloading allowed. It makes you think about stuff and get excited about an individual battle a lot more.
Here's two examples from this last game of the month...
1) I lost my capital to barbarians when I only had 5 or 6 cities. I was...
I submitted the save of the turn I lost, not the turn after. Thus my score was about 3k, instead of the 4.5k that was listed in the HOF screen.
Should I do the one more turn thing? Or should I just stick with what I've got?
BTW, my game bombed out on me a number of times near the end...
Agree completely, this is my second most common reason for re-loading.
Can't say I've done this in years. Also wouldn't say it's the "worst" for of reloading. I have no problems with someone reloading for this reason if they are in a single player game. Heck I don't even mind them talking...
I'm going to throw Archers into the ring. Yeah there are times when you have to upgrade them to Longbowmen or Crossbowmen. But usually they stay the way they are until at least Riflemen, if not Infantry or Machine Gun. Especially for my core city defenders.
After that Catapults are the...
There are really only two times I reload.
1) As a learning experience. I'm a builder by nature and at one time I was trying to increase my warmongering skills. So I would play half a dozen games declaring war as soon as I thought I had an even chance. As opposed to only going to war when...
Yeah, rush to Optics. Then to Astronomy. It might be tough. Think about a Specialist or two to keep population down on the food rich capital. (I forget what you need for an Engineer, but that would boost production.)
I'd love to give the game a try, too. What difficulty are you playing at?
This actually looks like a fun starting location. It may be a challenge, but given the setting none of the AIs will have a huge land base to start out with either.
I'd love to see what is to the N & E of the island. :scan:
You have plenty of forests to chop the get a settler and a...
I need to add to this...
I've also found that I have a LOT more disposable income for the first few months after a new CIV game comes out.
Two reason for this I can see...
Don't eat out as much.
Don't spend very much money on entertainment (bars, movies, etc...)
Use the icon that looks like a road with an arrow of each side. You click that icon then click the location you want to build a road to.
I don't think there are "advanced options" like in C3C. You can only do what the worker can do to the tile.
There is no Zone of Control anymore.
In fact, if you are not at war with someone their units can occupy the same square as your units. So you can no longer cut off the enemy with a line of your units during peace time.
From a consequence of pre-order from Amazon, bad timing, and impatience I ended up buying two copys for Civ4. Which is actually not a bad thing, because I own two computers (gaming computer and laptop).
I'd been swapping the first play disk between the two computers. But last night I...
