It seem to me that the map shown on the first post just seems to colour in NATO member countries or NATO friendly/influenced on nations. I think Argentina, Uruguay and Chile in some degree should also be considered part of the western world, a type of "Far West".

Vikings are very well represented by barbarians. Spain brought America to European knowledge and even if one measly boat made it there failed to establish a colony and bring any news of it back to the old world it does not equal to what Spain did.

I can see where Persia can surpass Spain (although it hurts to leave any of them out) But Scandinavia doenst even reach Spains heels in terms of historical protagonization.
