Have you really never won a game? I have been playing Civ for years and only won a few games. As I got better and close to winning games I would ramp the difficulty up. Every time I beat the game I lose the desire to play it for weeks. When I lose :mad: I can't wait to start a new game.
I think the main reason people would be adverse to using mods is that they want to play the same game as everyone else. What is needed is some time for the best mods to separate themselves and gain enough popularity that they become a standard in their own right (like FFH or RevDCM).
I also was using Valkyronn's Economy Mod with all of the Balance Mods and found that it was excessive. Fortunately it is easy to customize either mod to your liking. Just navigate to your \Mods\Economy Mod\ folder and edit the files there with a text editor.

I highly recommend you check out the in-game mods browser if you haven't already. Here's what I'm using:

Can someone please bring back the old resource icons? In Civ4 collecting all those blue hammers in your city felt GOOD. These strange orange circles just don't compare.
This link provides a reasonable explanation. IIRC, I remember reading that tessellation in Civ V is used in the leaderhead scenes. The leaderheads do look kinda last-gen on DX9 I have to admit.
