If you'd like the joy of playing as a vassal, try Sid Meier's Colonization IV. Sure, it's not exactly the same game, but you do get the fun of having your lord demand gold from you, or raise your taxes on a regular basis!
Really, though, it is a fun change of pace!
You can use the "chat to all" feature to take notes. There's a character limit to each post you make this way, but they'll appear in order when you go back to reload the game.
I've experimented with doing this when I want to record my own in-game events (A unit winning a battle, a diplomatic...
Feudalism.
The sad thing is, I thought I was being stealthy and slick using my longbowmen to repel barbs and not switching to Monarchy so the other Civs couldn't tell where I was tech-wise (nobody had alphabet yet).
...it never occurred to me that opening a Diplomacy trade screen would...
My silliest thing has got to be dumb unit promotions.
For example:
1) Taking my fine Flanking II War Elephant and making its next promotion Mobility...
...that really does a crap load of good for a unit that only has one movement point.
Let's see some civics changes, and shake things up. Maybe that will make for a more clear winner.
If England starts a Golden Age by using up the royal baby that would allow them to switch back and forth between Monarchy and Police State without any lost productivity. They could use the bonus...
My favorite has got to be gifting a city to an AI that's about to be annihilated by someone else. Place it in the crappiest terrain you can find so it can't be an expansion threat to you, and then...WHAM!!! Once they lose their capital, all of a sudden say hello to Elizabeth, Queen of the...
...or is this such a minor thing to most players that it isn't even worth mentioning?
I think Great Generals are my favorite units in the game. They're certainly a lot of fun.
If the geography and improvement type are the same and adjacent to each other (with the exception of cottages) I'll often give them the same single name, and maybe only label one of the improvements. Since I tend to have my camera zoomed in pretty close most of the time, the signposts...
1) I name my initial workers based on the type of improvements they make, like "Ashram the Farmer". If I capture a worker I'll try to give it a name that sounds like it came from the Civ I captured it from, and a moniker that identifies the city / civ I stole it from ("Gracchus of Cumae"...
Add "Flanking" and "Tactics" and (part of) "Guerilla III" as well. If the outcome is decided by strength alone and no RNG, these promotions are worthless because the very concept of withdrawal (from unit combat) gets removed from the game.
I knew I was leaving some out...
And yes, I hate Louis "hairdo" XIV
I actually like Creative as a trait. I hardly ever play any leader with Industrious.
...and I love the comments, Mulatto!
