Indian units request

Looks great - please animate him!!

Of course, if you could do a matching spearman, that would be sensational :mischief: ;) !!

Looks very good. I suggest giving him sandals, but otherwise the model is really nice.

Odin, I have some swordsman animations that I'm planning to put on your animation library at some point. If you want to have a look at them as a guide for this unit then let me know - it might give you some ideas since I don't think you've done any sword units before.

Indian Worker progress report: Making a dhoti out of the long kilt prop has proved beyond my abilities, but odin's preview above gave me the idea of making one out of a pair of shortish trousers and a loincloth. If they both have the same texture, then at civ scale it might look about right. What do you reckon?

Hold on... Odin, you make units? :goodjob: That looks amazing!
Same goes for the Indian worker.
It's nice to see everyone pitching in to help with Anno Domini.

Both are great, you guys! :goodjob:

Plotinus - can you make his skin tone a wee bit lighter? I am aware that it is nothing uncommon of indians to have such dark skin, but I think that a bit lighter tone would be a great way to differentiate them from africans at civ-scale :)

The previews of the Indian worker look very good. I'll need to see him at civ-scale to be sure but I think Plotinus is on the right track with the cloth textures. Since the color matches the torso I guess those are feet not boots; at civ scale I don't think I'd see toes anyway. As to the skin tone itself, traditionally Sudras (the serf caste) would have been thought of as having dark skin. Probably not as dark as Africans, but easily as dark as African-Americans.

Excellent - in that case I'll get animating. Yes, he's just got bare feet (the Paperdoll doesn't have toes). Here's a civ-scale view:

Indian workers who work outdoors do tan very dark - I've seen a fair few who are easily as dark as Africans.

@ Plotinus: If the preview is any indication, then it looks like you may be on the right track for modeling a dhoti. You're right, the turban and dhoti should be closer in tone.

@ R8XFT: If you use the same basic costume on another unit, I think it would be a nice contrast to this one to switch the shield so the design is the civ color and the shield itself is the brassy shade. Also, from the preview it look like you could make the red in his coat civ color and leave the gold brocade, but I'm not sure how well that would "read" at civ-scale.

Plotinus, yes, I would like to add those animations to the library for other Poser artists, but I would really like to make my own animations for this guy; that's the way I am. I feel as if it's not my work if I use someone else's animations, (not that they're bad, your's are spectacular!). I made a swordsman as my second unit (Asiatic Swordsman) but I hope to make this new unit alot better than that. As for sandals, I think we don't have enough barefoot civ units, so no shoes. I'm glad you found my unit design useful! I didn't even know what a dhoti was, I just tried to make it exactly like the concept art!

Rob, yes, I could do an accompanying spearman, too.

RedAlert, yeah, I make units now. They're not that great, but you can check them out in the units forum

I'll do these guys after my EFZI pack (which will be done soon. Sometime in May, I promise!)

This thread is turning out to be a goldmine! WOW, them thar units are shaping up something stellar!
Wasn't Gaias converting Rome Total War units? Or am I mixing that up with a different game?
He was, but he has gone AWOL for a while. The last thing I heard from him was this. I was looking forward to this one. :(
Drat. I should find out where he lives and bug him, he and I are in the same province after all.

Any way, if Gaias can convert units from Rome Total War, then it should be possible for a guy like Steph to figure out how to convert units from a Total War modpack (which, if I understand things correctly, is what this "Blue Lotus" thing is).

That depends on the file format. If the file is in a particular format that Steph's programs can't read, then Steph can't convert them. 3d figures and 2d sprites are different.
