Introduction

CivMapGen is a map file generator for Civilization II that facilitates harsher terrain and climate. It gives greater control than the existing map generator within the game, and allows much faster generation of novel or extreme worlds than using the map editor.

Features

  • Fast generation of random CIV2 map files.
  • Increased range and control over input parameters.
  • More extreme terrain and climate possible.
  • Sample world templates for instant use.
  • Optional thumbnail view of map files.
  • Estimate of city sites to indicate game length.
  • City site count and thumbnail view possible with exiting maps.
  • Support of gigantic maps for 'Test of Time' & Multiplayer versions of CIV2.

System Requirements

Systems that can Run CIV2, should be able to run the Map Generator. The main panel is 600 pixels high, so the display resolution needs to be 800x600 or higher. If your system runs CIV2, but not this program, please report the problem to the author via email. (Please state clearly what OS version and CPU are used).

Installation

To install CivMapGen, create a directory on your hard disk using File Manager or via the 'My Computer' Icon on the desktop, or via right clicking on 'Start' menu and selecting 'Explore'. Then, unpack the shipping ZIP file into this directory. Create an Icon on the desk top by right clicking there and selecting 'New', then 'Shortcut'. Use the browse option to locate the EXE file you have just unpacked or copied. You can add the program to the Start Menu, by right clicking on the task bar then selecting 'Properties', then 'Start Menu Programs'.
To associate CivMapGen with .MP files, Click on 'My Computer', select 'Tools', 'Folder Options..', 'File Types'. Enter MP as a new file type and select CivMapGen as the application to open them.
It is always advisable to use your virus scan software on any new EXE files being running them on your computer.
This program will not store application data in the registry on your computer, but it will create and use an .INI file in it's own directory.
