Which is very much by design, though I think often the people doing the vote suppression policies in the US are using race as the proxy rather than income

General Politics Three: But what is left/right?

There's two party systems and then there's two party systems. Other FPTP places like the UK and Canada still do have minor parties getting an appreciable fraction of the vote, albeit heavily impeded by the tactical voting dilemma etc. But the US also has a bunch of ballot and funding and...

General Politics Three: But what is left/right?

I think this is pretty presidentialism focused, the electoral college is silly but you're still inescapably electing just one person there. Short of switching to parliamentary republic, or a Swiss collective executive, about the best that can be done with a presidency is a two round system.

General Politics Three: But what is left/right?

The problem with the US Senate isn't so much that it's malapportioned, in a federation upper houses are generally designed that way because federations exist where there's sub national units of diverse sizes and dispositions and a political system has to cater to that. For example, North Rhine...

The lunatics think their god intends to use Israel as a sacrificial pyre to summon the end times. That's why all the "god gave it to them" stuff.

The whole project was explicitly defined as colonial by the Zionist movement themselves in the late 19th and early 20th century. There's a lot of quotes where they talk about the colonisation project.

Nah, that's just a nickname that's been used for as long as I can remember for things like flu vaccines. For example in 2010 from the national broadcaster when small kids were having reactions to that years influenza vaccine: "Parents recount flu jab nightmare"

    [RD] Abortion, once again

To some extent, decriminalisation doesn't change that much when the decades of common law interpretations and policy decisions have reduced the practical scope of criminal penalties in many common law jurisdictions to almost zero, but his is still an important protection to pass even if in...

Republican Bidens and the Failure of the Democratic Party

Not the end of the world, just notable when a place as big and rich as the US does the slide into irregular and hybrid regime territory instead of, like, Hungary or Turkey.

Republican Bidens and the Failure of the Democratic Party

Still a surprising amount of commentary talking like the US system is still normal, and is discussing things as though a close balance of states, and close results within states, are just going to be allowed to play out neutrally. The law abiding republic is already failed in this sense, the...
