i usually keep cities if they are good but burn the poor ones. that helps.
what is the best number of cities to keep
how do you reduce the pop of cities you own and can you raze them
I've been playing various versions of Civilisation for years.
I've never taken over the whole Map on Emperor. I probably play lower
but I can't do it on Civ 5 even on warlord. theres too many penalties for unhappiness and the units costs too much. any tips ?
I really enjoyed sim city 2000 but I didn't get on with the last release or sim societies. I am looking foward to this one. Hope they've added some new features but not changed it too much.
thanks chaps
i had given up hope of a reply
"won't move anything into a city's attack range until I have enough there to successfully siege it.Won't use my melee units until the city's ready to fall either"
SO what are you using to grind out the city defences
What I want is any tips for playing 1upt for someone more used to Civ 4.

Wot no stacks ? well that certainly changes things. gone are my eight catapault and ten unit stacks. but I find they all get in the way of each other. especially if they are coming from different corners of the...
Sorry if these questions are a bit techie but they probably not technical support
- the scrolling across the screen is very slow and very jerky. compared with total war which moves smoothly. Can this be fixed by changing graphics options and which ones
- I'm playing by logging into steam...
thanks Dave
the question was how much space to leave between cities (not how many citzens they can have)
although its possible that the two points are related in ways that I don't fully understand
the civopedia says something about working 3 tiles so does that make the answer 6 ?
or...
How many clear tiles between two cities if you want the citys to grow to the biggest size

Bit confused as to these new fangled hex shapes and what difference that will make (hence the question)
sounds like a hybid economy - some features of a specialist economy except that you only have a few specialists
on razing -
I always raze some cities to keep total mantenance down. the AI cities often overlap in any case. sonme cities, especially capitals have some great resources and...
not that I know but spies can use ep point to perform counterespionage against an AI rival in order to make spying by that rival more costly for them. send to a city and select counterespionage option
when you have the opportunity o perform the espionage missions (you are in an enemy city)...
Alexander the Great was a great general and dedicated to the warrior code
Heinz Guderian was also a fine general and revolutionised tank warfare - "blitzkrieg"
Finally Oliver Cromwell established the New Model Army and turned the course of the English Civil War against the King
if you intend to ikeep and upgrade highly promoted units - you will find that cover becomes redundant but city raider remains useful in all periods - that might not be the critical factor - but if the odds are not that different worth considering
thanks
sound as ever, Cam H
conclusion seems to be - it nice to have nobody at your back, but the price of that may be too high for it to determine your strategy in some games
yes, I agree a commando is hugely promoted -therefore valuable. it could get to a iron mine or oil but would have to wait a turn before pillaging. if it was a forward attack in an advanced civ with rail it would be dead before that happened
furthermore if this was deep in enemy terretory the...
Religiosn seems to me pretty indispensible if you want to keep people happy and productive (or not ?)
but its a pain to found a religion so I normally wipe out my nearest rival and steal his religion -
however it doesn't always work out for the best so I probably need to think more...
I have played loads of games on big continents recently
its quite challenging because the AI is much better at launching attacks across land than across sea
I normally find that early expansion means you face powerful rivals on at lesat two fronts (if not three)
sometimes I deal with...
