ICS: Alive and Well in Civ5?

ICS, infinite city sprawl, was a great mechanic in Civ3 and a possible mechanic in Civ4. I'm just wondering if honeycomb city sprawl (HCS) is at all possible in Civ5. I want this topic to be a place where possible strategies for ICS will be discussed. Theoretically, if you were to do it, how...

How satisfied are you with Civ5?

Civ5 has been out for over a week now, and I'm sure the majority of the posters in this forum have bought it and played it. How well did the gameplay of Civ5 meet your expectations from the hype created by Firaxis? Was the game more fun or less fun than you anticipated it to be? Was the game...

There's a problem with "Your Favorite X Leader" topics

They devolve into a "which trait except for the one specified is the best" topic. In the Creative Leader topic, Oranje is winning. Why? Financial. Second? Hatsheput. Spiritual. Charismatic. First? Hannibal. Financial. Second? Cyrus. Interestingly enough, this is a case built upon his UU's...

How much of an impact do your uniques have on your strategy?

I see a lot of posts on these boards of people asking for tiered lists of leaders, unique buildings and units, and traits. I assume that it's an effort to find a choice that's universally "best", or some nonesense like that. Is your strategy defined before you pick the leader for your...

    6 Seafood start

Uh.... I can export the save to worldbuilder if anyone wants to play this joke of a start.

Post your end of game stats!

Domination win, Prince/Marathon to 1666 AD. Woo, oromo steamroll and cottage spam! I was 16 XP away from my 6th Great General when I hit 60% land. Post yours, because stats are fun!

    Total Science by 1 AD

How many total beakers have you managed to produce by 1 AD? My record is 198 @ 80% slider, with Frederik on an Islands map, Noble/Normal. I popped quite a few Great Scientists and had a good food/hammer capital, netting me several wonders and quite a few specialists. Sadly, this information...

    Cottaging Hills

I was under the impression that you couldn't cottage hills. Images: Only the last hill is a riverside hill. The option was unavailable on plains hills. I've never seen the option to cottage a hill, riverside or not, grassland or plains or desert or tundra. what the fudge

    The All-Seeing Seer

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=146879 I stumbled upon this tiny thread from 2005. Someone hit the nail on the head. Gee, I wonder where Firaxis gets their ideas.

Beavers are the most broken resource

I started a map as the HRE and had 3 beaver plots in my capital. The HRE starts with hunting, so I was able to build camps on the beavers from the get-go. Each camped beaver tile produces 4 commerce on top of whatever the tile normally produces. I had a beaver on a forested plains hill, one on...

    Another arguement for slavery

Look at these screen shots: My cities (all cities are equidistant from my capital according to the 'Curious Cat' topic, which MAY or MAY NOT still be applicable to BtS): A size 4 city: A size 5 city: A size 2 city: A size 1 city: A city whipped from 5 (seen in the second shot) to...

What do you drink in the morning?

I was sitting here, this morning, and drinking coffee when I said in a soliloquy how interesting it would be to see how others drink the morning away. What does Civ drink in the morning? I do coffee, being a stereotypical American. :P (also beer is just a comedy option, haha)

    The Scientific Gravity Debate.

Now that we have our own forum, we can discuss the merits and failures of gravity, on an entirely scientific level. We need not discuss Magnetism, and various other idiotic mumbo~jumbo, please leave that for OT. So please, as no theory is water tight, what are the weak points of the...

    The Barbarians Scenario

In this Warlords scenario, if the Camp is on a galley, and the Galley is sunk, you can keep on playing (But, sadly, cannot purchase units). Thought it was kind of interesting. Anyone else notice this? Too bad it isn't exploitable; ie, still being able to purchase units.

    [XMLCOMP] Jerry's Twaeks

I've stayed up until 2 AM the past few nights, with nothing to do and too much coffee. Here, the fruit of my labors, I give you Twaek. I was tpying fast, and I misspelled Tweak. Oh well. Twaek is now only at version 0.0.1, and still has a lot of balance issues. It's still very simple...

    What bothers you about Civ4?

Not graphics- or bug-wise, but playability-wise. Civics? Wonders? Units? Promotions? Personally, I don't like a few of the wonders. I think a few of them could be improved. (ie: Chichen Itza [], The Internet, Hagia Sophia, among others) Also, I think that all specialists...

    First One City Challenge

Yay, I won my first OCC today. I was playing as Ghandi, on Fractal, Small, High Sea Level, No Barbians, and with Permanent Alliances on. There were two islands, one with Victoria, Cyrus, and me smashed between (but on the sea) and the other with Khan and Alex (Best buddies throughout the...

    War Elephants

Are these beasts overpowered? I recently played a Fractal/Warlord game, with Inca, and I had elephants in my capital's fat cross. I Quecha rushed Ragnar in 1500 BC, destroying his one city, and then Elephant/Axemen/Quecha rushed Tokugawa at ~100AD (we three shared an island) and destroyed him...
