Unless they bear Kris! Gotta love my KS, even if it is always a bit of gambling! I second this. I used to love my cavalry in Civ IV since I can stack lots of them and use them to weaken the enemy (with a chance of retreating!). But now in Civ V with 1 UPT and battles are not always finished...

I think the arguments were all started when you used the word "European" instead of "Western" (or whatever word closer to your intention). I personally also feels that Brazil adds certain amount of so-called "exoticism", at least better than to put another typical "Western" civs in the game...

First played as Indonesia, got bored after 200+ turns because it was so peaceful. Then Portugal, also had to quit because of weird map (very isolated from other civs and CS). After that, gave Indonesia another chance and won diplo victory. One of the most fun game I ever played.

I love BNW! However, what I missed the most from earlier Civs are not vassals but nationalities. Your conquered cities might be yours to rule, but they are full of people from other nations who hate you, only to be assimilated after centuries living under your culture or emigrated elsewhere...

If pursuing a peaceful victory, avoid making Defensive Pact with anyone.. Seems like a lot of leaders are suddenly trigger-happy once they got into Industrial age.
