    Polynesia? Seriously!?

Almost all those civs were in the last game. Are they really what made the game better? There's a lot of talk about the historical importance of various candidate civs but is anyone even claiming that they're less fun to play? I really don't mind what civilization they come up with as long...

Why doesn't the AI use its resources?

The AI had a bad experience with resources in the last game and likes to stay safe inside its cities where it has lots of bonus hammers and happiness to keep it company.

    Trade Reputation / breaking deals

In theory each breach of the agreement would make successive agreements more costly to you (e.g., insurance for breaking the deal in the form of a lump sum of gold up front, or lower and lower prices for whatever you have to offer). As your word becomes worth less and less, so will your...

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

This mod looks great but I haven't seen documentation this poor since the Civ 5 Civilopedia. Ambiguity right off the bat. I play Civ 4 in single and multiplayer; do I need to run the installer twice? Dear god I hope not but according to the installer I do. Oh, maybe I'll just install this as...

    For whom the bell tolls

Anyone who wants to send me the money I spent on this game is welcome to do so. After all it's just money. In lieu of that you can send it to Africa if you want.

Comment by 'sargasm' in media 'Norte Chico of the Barbarians'

So would you favor the addition of racial slurs to the game, as long as they were historically accurate? To do otherwise would be presumably rewriting history. In any case, it doesn't really matter whether people 5,000 years ago were bigoted -- the representation is simply inaccurate. The...

Stupidest Thing to Happen to You?

I guess I'll add myself to the club. After spending many turns building up an army and marching it across the continent to take out Genghis Khan, I declared war only to find out that Genghis is actually quite near me, and Mansa Musa, who I had open borders with, was the one I was preparing to...

    Most illogical rules in Civ4

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the way some of the Government civics seem to work. Hereditary Rule: The monarch's succession by his children makes it so that people are happier when the military is around? Representation: I understand the happiness bonus, but since when does...

Stupid things made in real life...

Stalin didn't leverage his Industrious trait properly, at all. One of the biggest civs of the modern era, running State Property, and the only wonder he got was the Kremlin. Done properly, he could have gotten the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, Broadway, Hollywood, etc. A shame.

    Most worthless unit?

I like guided missiles. They cost substantially less than a Marine or Paratrooper, meaning you can amass a large amount of them from all your cities, then massacre the defending forces in the city you're attacking, and move your stack in to capture it with little to no damage, meaning they can...

    Humanism as religion #8

In everything but name, really. I'm saying that they weren't effective in eradicating religion in people's personal lives, so the effects of Free Religion were basically the same: -boost to research that comes with an emphasis on science rather than faith in public education -religion...

Why is it that CIV 4 siege units suck so badly at defending?

Do you have any other examples, say, involving catapults or such? I realize catapults and trebuchets were indeed used by defending castles or whatever, but were they very effective compared to the archers that were also defending? Siege units were invented for smashing walls and buildings, not...

    Humanism as religion #8

Or does it? Hard to believe that the USSR was able to stamp religion out completely, in even one city. People tend to be quite resilient in their religious beliefs, so it makes sense that religion never goes away from cities that it's spread to. In any case, humanist ideas are included...

    Cavalry?! What for?!

Cuirassers seem to be just a slight improvement over Knights -- they have a bit higher strength and an innate withdrawal chance. But if you have Cuirassers, you're only one tech away (Rifling) from Cavalry, so you might as well just keep going. Speaking of Cavalry, can anyone tell me what...

Should Great Artists hurry artistic wonders?

And perhaps the Hermitage, or Globe Theatre, or the Taj Mahal. It gets difficult to decide when you've got wonders that are both architecturally complex and works of art in themselves. In this vein, might a Great Merchant hurry production on Wall Street, or a Great Scientist hurry Oxford...
