People seem to forget the laws of large numbers. Low percentages just means its guaranteed to happen, eventually, and more than you like. You forget about the other 99 times out of 100 it didnt happen quickly.

If you get a Golden Age and can choose the "buy civilian units with Faith" card, you can usually pop out a nice amount of builders and settlers and expand quickly while you have the GA, I like to combine it with the Voidsinger Secret Society, and use obelisks to build up lots of Faith.
