AI starting with rifles? ...at monarch/emperor If you meant giving them rifling:: espionage will kill them (all AIs) way too quickly w/ great spy being the top choice.Hmm, Still need pre-req, and the AIs starts w/ quite nice era bonus. If you mean just some rifles:: no biggie they die to...

Folket: It could have been a dead end.. I will try to bite: While exploring you notice Mountain Peaks and coastal Ocean - the former is impassible (even for subs, subs can go through ice blocks), the latter is impassible for galleys. The north part was clearly reachable and the mountain...

pretty much the previous game (sgotm-16). Cottages make sense w/ long term goals in mind. We went for early Pyramids - there were quite a few tests to get them as soon as we could (i.e. stone+Maths), and more tests to see when classical starts AIs tend to build them.

I'll try to briefly describe what Plastic Ducks did and why galleons looked natural to us. At the beginning Duckweed proposed bulb of engineering+astronomy (this is a standard 4 GS bulb avoiding civic service) but the major point was the lack of water tiles, just too few. We knew about the...

    SGOTM 17 - Phoenix Rising

The length of the health bar is the sign. Post 56 by kossin (linked in the previous post I've made) explains. Normally w/o strong units there will be large health bar but what we get is smallish, kossin replicated for 6 str and there are not so many 6str units (longbow, swordsman, xbow...

Barbarians do not participate in demographics screen but they do in the victory one. The discrepancy was the key to the 2 cities. Demo screen alone won't tell that.

    SGOTM 17 - Phoenix Rising

@pepe26, UnforcedError is a lady actually :) We didn't ignore great people as they were the the stepping stone of the entire strategy, we used 4 great scientists to bulb options(1), astronomy(2), engineering(1) and then 1 great engineer for a golden age. Research: alphabet as we saw Masna...

    SGOTM 17 - Plastic Ducks

@LowtherCastle Yes, you get the strategy correctly get Astronomy->engineering asap and close the shop. 1st trades we did plan for, incl kept the war to help Mansa research iron working (as he had no copper/horses). I meant later on we got no really good trades from anyone but Mansa. For instance...

SGOTM 17 - Misfit Gypsy Nuts

I still don't quite understand the need for all the city gifting and recapturing 2 fold benefit: * It doesn't cost money for 30+ turns, w/o border the canal city is a huge drain by the time all your cities are whipped to the dirt. * You can keep gifting cities nearby to Tokugawa :), the latter...

SGOTM 17 - The Shawshank Redemption

For most of the part we didn't use horses at all, perhaps a pillaging chariot or so. The main force consisted of war machines, xbows and land-knights. The horses were whipped to kick Peter's butt and we had a bit too many of them in the end. The rest were the ones joining last few Toku cities as...

Congratulations, guys! Galley-galore :) In competitions usually if there are 2 silver medals given, there is no bronze for the 4th finish.

    Knights

Flanking means more significantly more xp on success and more greater general points, just a point one might consider. Flanking is so fun on submarines. Great wall+defense against pesky maundering destroyers via flanking subs (it was always war, got fission and radio but no combustion)...

What if combat wasn't RNG dependent?

If you wish non random element you still wish something like a hidden variable. That is: courage, readiness (perhaps estimated pay level). The results are deterministic just not complete information(full-knowledge) game like chess is. Personally, I have great dislike for any use of randomness in...

AI not going for Religious Victory

DeathDealer314, the AI proposing must be willing to pass it (technically it may wish to prohibit a previously passed resolution). So the behavior is only normal. The random decisions are picked amongst the ones it considers 'em good -- it just doesn't really add weights. @Tachywaxon, "smaller"...

    Serfdom

Serfdom is useful in OCC, esp to lay all those forest preserves. needed for the national park. Baring that it's an useless civic.

AI not going for Religious Victory

The code for all resolutions is appalling, the AI will pick (think randomly) any that it's willing to pass (i.e. vote Yes) on their right on. So that being said: the AI doesn't pursue diplomatic victory.

AWs partly remove the ability to deeply run test games which is kinda removing a grind point as well.

Vassals are an issue only prior to optics and only w/ continents. If they meet you early on, they will be forever war locked in, unless you can pull some stunt via the AP resolution (likely have to capture it to have the religion properly spread). Continents map type also makes "always war"...

on_land, an obvious tip: if you wish to whip granary you wish to have (exactly) half of the food bar filled, not more.
