There was no AI before ;)
If you focus entirely on building cities yourself you can out-build the AI, so the AI is not all that focused on cities. Obviously if you do focus entirely on more cities you leave yourself open to attacks and miss out on other things like wonders.

A new release has been made.
The "CtP2 Apolyton Edition" is basically a patch made by the Apolyton CtP2 community using the CtP2 source code.
The AE fixes many bugs that were in the original game, adds many new useful features, and improves the AI a lot.
You can download it HERE and...
The scenario editor for CtP2 (and especially CtP1) does have it's quirks ;)
A lot of the problems with it have been fixed in the Apolyton Edition (see my signature) for CtP2, so it would be a good idea to install that first.
I would then recommend downloading the Mod Guide pdf file. It...
An updated Apolyton Edition patch has been uploaded to fix a common bug, so I recommend you download the new June 1st patch if you have the May 17th patch. You can just install it over the top of the May 17th patch.
Download the June 1st Apolyton Edition patch HERE.

I wanted to finish a game I had going with the Mongols too but I had my first freeze today. Wouldn't have been so bad but I lost something like 50 turns, wish there was an auto save :( Kinda killed my enthusiasm for the game ATM, but I still hope to get this week's game finished before the next...
Early it seems better to keep cities focused on science or production, and get gold in other ways, like barbarians, stealing and caravans. Once you have big trade cities you can switch between science and gold.
Not sure on either. Perhaps keep an eye on this thread though.
Exactly. In very few cases do they contain any information worth paying for, especially as you can find all of it (and more) online anyway.
Don't buy these things people.
Cool.
CivRev has been perfectly stable for me so far, and that's including some 6 or 7hr sessions. Even games like Panzer Tactics, Puzzle Quest, Advance Wars DS (not Days of Ruin, that is very stable) have frozen after very long sessions.
