King of the World #22: Gilgamesh

I'm not sure; just extrapolating from the E18 map. Either way, I'm guessing that Neal has a production advantage, although war chariots vs. vultures would not be fun.

King of the World #22: Gilgamesh

On the other hand, you might be better off going to war early, rather than building wonders. My sense of this map is that there's not a lot of great land but that you have some of the best, as does your wonder-spamming neighbor who has no access to metal. Take out Egypt and you're in a pretty...

Best American leader for Earth map?

No joke. I tried giving FDR a bunch of Navy SEALS in 4000 B.C., and Monty still ate his lunch.

King of the World #22: Gilgamesh

I agree with Oz-Man. Blue before green, and Red 1NW to trade the ability to work desert copper for sheep and a plains hill. Depending on what Greece (the location, not the civilization with the same name wandering around southern Russia) looks like, it might be worth settling a city there...

Best American leader for Earth map?

I like Roosevelt, whose traits are excellent for expanding to fill the New World, and for grabbing those wonders (especially the "applies to all cities on a continent" ones) that are especially nice on the E18 map. AI Roosevelt is, of course, another story.

King of the World #22: Gilgamesh

I agree with posters urging you to go north. You need production, health, and food resources. On the Earth map, at least, all of that exists up near the headwaters of the Tigris.

King of the World #22: Gilgamesh

Subscribed; this should be a fun one. Do we know who else is on the map?

The King of the World Throne Room

This seems like an awesome idea. The Vikings had their shot, but Sumeria, Babylon and Carthage have some potential.

The King of the World Throne Room

What about an Always Peace game as one of the European powers? There's various gambits one could try: the apostolic palace, culture bombing, beelining astronomy to colonize South America and Australia.

King of the World #21: Charlemagne

Excellent round. Nail some theses to a church door in Bremen, and then go reform Paris.

King of the World #21: Charlemagne

Rome is by far your best city; IMO bureaucracy is beneficial only if you can move the palace. Re. Ribe: if memory serves, it's a horrible and misplaced city (founded on the pigs) with no infrastructure or production capability. It's also heavily defended and not worth the cost of taking it...

King of the World #21: Charlemagne

Along with the Oracle, the Sistine Chapel is a great wonder on this map, since all the religious buildings are pre-built (and there are more cathedrals than you would be allowed to build on your own). It's the best non-violent way to deal with French culture.

King of the World #20: Pericles

Yes, if your stack is in a secret, unmarked area near a new civ, it will defect to the new civ. If you have cities in a secret, unmarked area, they can flip to the new civ, regardless of their happiness or culture or any other variable within your control. A fun gaming experience is not high on...

King of the World #20: Pericles

Exactly. A unique historical victory. Each civ has three of them, which, if completely successfully, will win the game. You get a golden age when you complete two of them. They range from interesting, to arbitrary, to stupid and anachronistic. The Greeks have some of the better ones.

King of the World #19: Qin Shi Huang

Every variant has some potential. You've mentioned the Earth 1000 A.D scenario in the past; that would definitely be fun.

King of the World #19: Qin Shi Huang

Well done; that was an excellent read. :goodjob:

    plunder

If you send privateers against opponents who can't build frigates, those opponents will frequently go into panic mode and start spamming caravels. Dozens of them, from every city, which is about as useful as dumping their hammers into the sea.

    OCC whipping

It depends on the map, but if it's possible to save them I will. Each forest unchopped is a specialist when the national park comes online.

    OCC whipping

If you're not spiritual, I imagine the anarchy cost of switching into and out of slavery, and possibly of dealing with a slave revolt in your only city, would outweigh the benefit of whipping once or twice.

King of the World #19: Qin Shi Huang

What about a quick detour to fascism for the great spy and Mt. Rushmore? It looks like there are a few unhappy cities; is war weariness a factor at all?
