    Into the renaissance and iron?

It's just something you have to adapt to by building more cavalry. Cavalry doesn't require iron, correct? Also, in vanilla before the patch, CATAPULTS required iron. You couldn't build siege units without it; it completely ruined my ability to take cities without suiciding good units.

    Unique Ability Elimination Thread

Sacrificial Captives: 6 (-) Scholars of the Jake Hall: 13 (+) Achaemenid Legacy: 16 Sacrificial captives is pretty good, but the cultural addition doesn't make up for how much extra science you can get with SJH.

    Quick Questions and Answers

How do you get a great prophet? There are no religious city-states on my continent, so I've been building up to 200 faith using shrines and temples. I'm finally there. 1. I need a prophet to found a religion, right? 2. If so, how do I get a prophet? 3. If not, how do I found a religion if I...

    Is Remaining Small Implausible?

I built six wonders - I don't recall all of them exactly. I don't have Gods and Kings, so no religion. I think I just got unlucky with an extremely powerful neighbor, unfortunately. How do you field a large military with only two cities? They had ~15 population each. My building maintenance...

    Is Remaining Small Implausible?

(Random Personalities) I decided to try my luck at a cultural victory with France (for the excellent Ancien Régime). I founded two amazing cities, but decided there weren't any more in the area of the same potential quality, so I decided to see how my game would go if I didn't expand anymore...

    Using Civilization in the classroom

I don't mean to offend you: As great as Civ is, I would never use it as a learning tool and I find this... weird, at the very least...

How to fight a defensive war?

If you keep your units stationed on good defensive forested hills (or whatever's best in your situation) and let your opponent throw units at you, you can drive up their war exhaustion without incurring any yourself. This alone can cripple enemy cities after a period of time. Also, it preserves...

Does anyone make much use of musketmen?

Thanks everyone, but grenadiers are a lot better offensively and can hold their own on defense, so why not just go for chemistry?

Does anyone make much use of musketmen?

I was playing an Earth18 game as monsieur Louis XIV. I was going to go for a single-city French empire expanded through extreme culture. I decided to stop teching after astronomy and gunpowder and go for a 100% culture slider. I realized I was stuck with French musketeers (UU), knights, and...

It may be stupid of me, but I almost never build an early wonder. I put hammers into units and buildings instead.

How do you achieve diplomatic victory?

I believe this is how both elections work. The election for S-G (the first one) will give you a preview of how the leaders will vote for the diplomatic victory.

How do you achieve diplomatic victory?

Diplomatic victory - winning the diplo victory election. Two leaders will run for the election - the leader with the most population, and the leader who builds the UN. If you are both, the second most populated civ will run too. The election will be voted on by all other civs. I don't know...

Easiest and Hardest Civs to play on Earth, 18 Civs?

Germany is the easiest to me by far... getting bronze in your capital's BFC (iirc Rome, England, France, and Spain all have to wait for IW, but Germany only has to wait to BW, which they can research right away) and there are a lot of forests for Germany to chop for production. Inca is the...

Losing Stonehenge tends to ruin the game O.o

You're playing a little rigid. Try starting a new game or three and try things you haven't tried before. Don't expect to win, but when you're finished with these experimental games you can play a real game and mix strategies to have a flexible plan that you can win with when circumstances change.
