    Favorite Tech Quotes

"I have just one word for you, just one word: Plastics!" - From "The Graduate" Part of why I enjoyed that quote so much was the fact at the time I first researched plastics, I had very recently seen "The Graduate" for the first time and saw the scene where Dustin Hoffman's character is grabbed...

    Free market Vs State property

Communism to us Americans typically equals Marxist-Leninism, whereby a system of economic justice and fairness is forcefully and perhaps even brutally, imposed on a group of people from the top down. This shouldn't be how its characterized in CivIV, however. With the civics system in place, we...

Yeah, how many times has this game crashed on you?

I have nearly the exact same specs as the OP, with differences being the 256 mb 6600GT and a regular stick of Samsung 512 DDR400. The game has only crashed when I played a huge map up to around 1950, when the game would crash to desktop when the game attempted to cycle to an active unit...

    Poll: Worst Programmed AI

In one of the few games of mine that he showed up in, he came to dominate his continent because he had won an early war with India(India was wiped out). When I finally made contact with his continent, he controlled roughly half of it, and had a massive population in all of his cities, and his...

    Best Great Person

In alot of cases, GPs have better uses, but if you are to add them as super specialists, place them according to how you have your national wonders setup. Prophets and Engineers can go in the city with Iron Works, Prophets and Merchants in the city with Wall Street, Scientists in city with...

Which Civ Version You Like Best? Civ 2 still ranks higher than Civ 4

Civ4. Its probably the first game in which peaceful building was actually fun for me.

Civilization 4 Vs Rise Of Nations -> Which is better?

It depends entirely upon your preference between Real Time and Turn Based gameplay. I prefer Civ4, but lately I've been alternating between sessions of Civ4 and playing a few turns of Conquer the World in Rise of Nations.

Which Civ 3 age would you live in?

I've got health issues that until recently, would've meant I'd be dead before reaching adulthood. That said, I'd prefer to live in a future age where advanced medicine might have givin me a better chance at a normal life.

    Did your game work?

It worked out of the box for me. And then after upgrading to a 6600GT videocard, the game ran perfectly enough to play large maps. The 1.52 patch has pretty made the game run as smoothly as Civ3 for me all throughout my game sessions.

    Great person Factory

Another thing to add is to choose a city that is located almost entirely upon arable flatlands and access to fresh water.

Most memorable unit in the civ series

The nuclear missile. When I first got into the series with CivII, the first game I played, I didn't do much beyond building a few cities and some improvements here or there, without really knowing what those improvements did. I was pre-occupied with going straight for Nukes, and I was quite...

I hope all you people wanting patch after patch are happy

I don't play Multiplayer, but I'm quite happy with the latest patch. Its made the game run so much smoother, even in the late game.

    Lost wonders

Seriously though, I'd probably like to see King Richard's Crusade brought back in some way. The additional shield per square was killer.

    Lost wonders

I know theres a wonder that comes with Assembly Line, but at the moment I can't quite remember what it is. Which is funny, because I know I often build it for its +2 EXP bonus.

    Representation and Hurrying Production

You got me there then. I should read through the civilopedia more often. I'm guessing the government types are trying to mirror the ones previously encountered in Civs I-III. Despotism=Same Monarchy=Hereditary Rule Representation=Republic Police State=Communism or Fascism(as they were...

Red Death in the 1840's D:

I really don't think CivIV favors any system or ideology above others. I guess I felt inclined to pick apart the connection in CivIV between Russia and its communist ties. However, I took that a little too seriously, and to the topic poster above, I apologize. For the record, I don't feel the...

    Representation and Hurrying Production

Who says "representation" has to represent the interests of the people? I think Representation in the case of Civ4 refers to Oligarchy or Constitutional Monarchy where the "representatives" tended to voice the needs of the landowners or aristocrats or the general affairs of the state itself. The...

Red Death in the 1840's D:

If theres a political statement about Russia to be made by the game, its not in favor of communism. Catherine and Peter, both Tsars of pre-soviet Imperialist Russia, and then during the civil war between the communist Red Army and the Imperialist White Army, the Cossacks fought for the whites...
