Somehow Civ1 is appealing enough to stick with it. It has simple and streamlined game-play with dynamic conquest. It's quite unpredictable and even in sure-win you can find yourself in withdrawal. Ha, I know that people hate it when battleship is sunk after battle with a transporter. But I just...
3 billions years old Worlds give more concentrated terrain types against the 5 billions years old Worlds which give fairly mixed terrains. If you like big mountain ranges and forests or deserts that spread wide and long, take the former rather then the latter.
I don't know exact numbers as well but from my experience all bonuses are summarised as in example:
+50% for river
+50% for fortification
+50% for veteran status
+200% for city walls
gives +350% and that means that Phalax has 7 defense, giving it a little bit better then catapult. From my...
True! I've all Civs but play only 1 at the moment. From one point, because of DosBox it's truly cross-platform and I get no problems running it on Linux. But Civ4 & 5 are fairly easy to install & run on modern versions of that system. Somehow Civ1 is appealing enough to stick with it. It has...
Wow, thank you for your informative post, AnorakTel. Civ1 was my favourite game and the "Atlantis bug" was one of the strangest things that could happen to you. It's great to get some insight after so many years. It's great to be here, just to learn something new after so many years!
I've tried the entrenching tactics, eventually also colonizing North Africa. Unfortunately, almost always I wad outnumbered sooner or later. It seems that the best what I was able to figure out is to take Moscow and Samarkand as soon as possible. The problem is that Athens have poor productivity...
Actually, I think that Civilization presents somewhat a positive side of civilization with most of the evilness excluded. With each version of this game it's more and more suitable for kids. Graphics are brighter, pollution gets less significant and unhappiness is downgraded. So Civilization is...
I was playing 3 games in a row, loosing every time. Playing as Greece is very challenging when you need to deal with the Russians and the Mongols.
Any ideas how to survive in this case?
I'm using a DosBox on my Ubuntu Linux machine but I remember that on Windows I had exactly the same problem. I see no animations on rivers and coasts. I know that this isn't a big thing but living map looks way better then the static one. I would like to bring the animations back. Any hints?
Hello my friends!
I was wandering what is the difference between the 1.3 patch for MGE and 2.42 for the Classic? I'm asking this question because I wonder if I should keep two games or just one. With AI hostility patch it seems that MGE should be nothing more then Classic + Multiplayer Gold...
After years of experience I've come to the conclusion that I'll drop my rejection of older titles. I still play Civ1 and there are very good mods that are worth playing even in the version that I've enjoyed least: Civ3. Did you know that there is this excellent mod (by Rhye I think) where...
