How do you know when a civ has withdrawn its embassy and removed yours? What triggers this aside from war? I'm often surprised when I go to trade and see that the option to swap embassy is back on the table again.

Every time the Americans are in my game they have resources that are unique to them and they never allow open borders with me, they never trade fairly and they are never friendly for long. We always end up going to war because I need the stuff or they start looking like they might win.
