    Montezuma: science powerhouse?

Yeah, the Floating Gardens has a rather unique bonus, along with the Temple of Artemis. It's quite possible to grow Aztec cities to absurd sizes, but the nice thing about the Floating Gardens is that the bonus is still very useful for maintaining a population instead. Once the city is working...

Well, if you ever climb your way up to Hawaii, I'll buy you a beer.

Insult to the English language in Civ5

Well, then you'll appreciate it when I call that nonsensical hyperventilation. Which isn't surprising given the purported source.

    Temple of artemis

Actually, that would be 40% growth, and a 10% food bonus. That's what the Temple of Artemis actually is. It's far better than Fertility Rites. A size 35 city with +10 food normally would have +15 if it worked the way you think. But in actuality, the city with the Temple of Artemis would be...

    Best Petra City Ever

I think that's a pretty pessimistic appraisal of a trade route's value. Particularly if we're talking about a coastal capital. At any rate, I think the +1 culture, and +6 more culture at Archaeology, is worth mentioning.

Is Gandhi the best pick for science?

But bear in mind that India has a special local happiness cap. It's specifically been lowered to 2/3 of their population instead of the standard 1:1. So they produce less unhappiness, but they also produce somewhat less local happiness. Arguably, this technically pushes their break even point...

    Why is Hitler banned?

He killed his own people. He just didnt recognize them as his people because of the whole racism thing.

Yeah, the game doesn't do a great job of explaining it, but you can tell if you count up the food in a city.

Why Can't I Capture Great People???

You can capture unexpended Great Prophets and plant them as holy sites. In fact, it's great fun. :)

    Random Events

Yes. Systems are better, and events should be largely abstracted, and not result in unexpectedly outsized amounts of damage. A tsunami prone area doesn't need to have to worry about being swept away necessarily. It could just mean that in exchange for a good bonus of some kind, like a trade...

    Random Events

I think the environment and weather should play a more integral role in the game. I wouldn't necessarily use a random events model. Or if I did, I'd probably use it in conjunction with map features. For instance, you might have a certain number of special bay tiles that provide a trade and...

Insult to the English language in Civ5

The terminology is different in England, from what I understand. When I refer to "public schools" I'm referring to state-run schools that you don't have to pay tuition for. Anyway, I don't know much about the English school system beyond that.

    Best Designed Civ Elimination Thread

It's not easy. For instance, I don't particularly think that using every element of the civ in every game is essential. I don't even have a problem with conflict. Conflict is necessary to keep my interest. That's why playing as Indonesia on a Pangaea map isn't stupid, but merely a chance to...

    Best Designed Civ Elimination Thread

You make so many assumptions. Firstly, synergy is just another form of power, and needs to be balanced as such. Synergy isn't special free power that doesn't get considered. Besides, this thread isn't about power. If you're talking about design principles, then there's nothing stopping you from...

    Classical Start on Higher Difficulties

If you check the graphs after quickly retiring, you can get an idea of what the AI bonuses are. In terms of tech, it looks like the AI start with all the Ancient era techs, just like you do, and no more. I think they still get some sort of advanced start bonus, but I don't know how it's applied.

    Overall Civ Elimination Thread

Oh well, I guess people don't consider the Temple of Artemis to be as absurdly powerful as I do. These food bonuses stack so well with other food bonuses that Aztec cities can grow fast enough to keep up with the science civs. Seriously. And the UA is very good for securing your ideology. There...
