You could just move some of the benefits to other trees so it's almost impossible to get all of them.
Secularism - Patronage
Humanism - Aesthetics
Free Thought - Piety
Scientific Revolution - Commerce
You can gain some scientific benefits but it's spread out all of...
I kinda think the recycling centers make it too easy to get aluminum. I think they should be patched to provide extra aluminum only if you already have the resource. Under the current rules Aluminum feels trivialized.
I realize it's probably only applicable to lower difficulty levels, but I play Prince difficulty and usually can avoid most wars by simply having a better military than the other Civs. They certainly might not like me all that much, but usually they won't DOW. The crazy one's do occasionally...
Gotcha. I didn't really have a problem with it to be honest but I read on this very forum that people thought it was too hard and therefore not really a worthwhile victory path compared to diplo or culture. It looks like diplo and conquest maybe got some indirect nerfs in this patch? Gold...
but I'm worried about one thing that sticks out in particular.
People have complained that science victories are much more difficult than cultural or domination or diplomatic. This patch, by increasing the tech costs only seems to compound that problem. Do you guys agree with this?
Are...
I am enjoying the game but it really does feel unfinished to me. Some balance issues that are annoying. No cut-scenes when you win the game?
I think this could have used another few months of work before release, but that's how the industry works unless you're Blizzard I guess.
According to the description seaports are supposed to give 2 production for each sea tile worked by the city.
I'm playing a game with various seaports in my empire and the water tiles that are being worked by those cities without workboats don't have production icons on them.
Is this...
Yeah the key is switching your cultural slider to 90% when you get the last tech that you absolutely have to have. For me this is rifling.
Obviously Liberalism is crucial here. I also try to get Democracy to get Representation.
Right now I've been doing Cultural Wins with...
I actually attempt to convert to this asap simply to stay out of wars. Getting free religion often changes furious or annoyed civs to cautious or pleased civs.
While you also lose the diplomacy bonus for sharing a religion with another civ it's almost always impossible to convert...
You make a good point, but I was a bit frustrated when I thought I had an XML problem only to discover it was my soundcard.
The steps listed at the top of the thread don't apply to me. I don't have an EU copy of windows, I don't need a new XML parser, I don't need to reset my XML server...
Can we split these issues up into 2 sticky posts? They are two very different issues and it caused a lot of confusion for me why people kept pointing me to a post about updating my XML parser when my sound card was causing the game to crash.
Make 2 posts, one for Sound card issues, and...
I had the exact same problem. I tried updating my drivers (Sound and Video) and that didn't work. Then I tried disabling my sound card. The game runs now, unfortunately I don't have sound.
Hopefully my sound card manufacturer will release a new driver.
I'm having this exact problem and I "resolved" it by disabling my sound card.
I have a creative SB Live card for my Dell. As far as I can tell Creative sucks and is a lousy sound card because I've had problems with this card before.
Of course my drivers are all up to date and...
Most recent driver update for my card (Creative SB Live Dell 5.1) was from Oct 2004.
I dl'd it (again) and still didn't work.
I tried disabling my card in windows as well and that didn't help either.
Yes I tried that solution. My settings were already set to US (I'm in the states) and the decimal and commas were correct.
I think tried DLing the XML solution from MS suggested and rebooting my PC.
I got the game to run this way. But it only runs one time. If I exit the...
Yes having exact same problem. Click on icon to launch. Load screen starts, when progress bar gets to "check xml" the process is killed and I'm right back to desktop
NVidia GEforce 5200 with new driver 81.85
Windows XP, 2.8 GHZ, 1.25 GB Ram
I'm trying to re-install game now but I...
It doesn't make much sense. Once refining is discovered Oil shows up on the map, wouldn't it make more sense to allow civs with access to Oil to build railroads? Modern rail runs on diesel fuel, not coal.
I bring this up because I was playing a game where I had Oil, Aluminim and Uranium...
If it's possible, for accuracy I would make Libertarianism a separate advancement available after the discovery of Economics. The Corporation doesn't really fit since the Corporation in and of itself is basically a large business entity that uses the government to further it's own agenda...
Just remember that trading can be good for other reasons aside from what you receive directly.
I think of resource and luxury trades as a 20 turn peace guarantee from that civilization. If they won't give up any luxuries for mine then I just click "What do you want for this" and when...
