    Take-Two buys Firaxis

Remember, the Xbox 360 comes out in a couple weeks, so I doubt you will see many new Xbox games. And the Xbox 360 has hardware that very different from a PC or Xbox.

Civ IV Reviewed On IGN!!! (you Will Be Very Happy! :) :) :)

Well, helicopters are basically a thousand parts flying together in loose formation. ;) I would just view the knight victory over the gunship as one of those cases when the helicopter malfunctions and falls out of the sky.

What graphics card should I buy for under $100?

You are correct there - the x550 is on a 110 nm process, the 9600 on a 130 nm.

What graphics card should I buy for under $100?

Yeah, a Geforce 6800 should be plenty of power in that price range. A major step up from a 5700 anyway. All the 6*00 cards do really well in Doom 3, and Quake 4 uses the same graphics engine. The benchs I have seen of the 6800 show it can pull close to 60 fps at 1280x1024 with 4x AA and high...

What graphics card should I buy for under $100?

All of the x550 cards are PCI-E; Cyberstar has an AGP system, so he needs a AGP card. The Radeon x550 is really just a 9600 series card with PCI-E support; both are 4 pixel pipe cards, and the x550 and 9600 Pro both have a core clock of 400mhz; memory speed varies a bit, the x550's seem to...

    New Laptop

Yeah, an Inspiron 9300 would probably be the best gaming laptop you can get without spending a stupid amount of money. You can get it nicely equiped for less than $2000. If you do have a stupid amount of money, then maybe look at Voodoo PC - they have some really high end laptops. For $5000...

What's the cheapest video card I can get that will run Civ IV

Well, find a PCI version of a Radeon 9200 or Geforce 5200; that should be able to play CIV 4, though less eye candy for you.

    Supported resolutions?

Well, in CIV 3 you only needed a trivial edit to the Conquest.ini file to enable any resolution; I doubt they would go backwards on this. Hope you have a good graphics card, pushing around that many pixels will be taxing on a low end card.

    CIV4 SSE dependent?

Well, the minimum specs call for at least a 1.2ghz processor; IIRC, there were only a couple Thunderbird CPU's released that were that fast, so it might not be that much of a problem.

What's the cheapest video card I can get that will run Civ IV

Brand new, or are you willing to hunt around on Ebay? You can pick up a Radeon 9250 for $35, and it should play CIV 4 fine, though with not so much eye candy and stuff. If you don't mind mail in rebates, $30 will get you a similar speed Geforce 5200 and $40 will get you a mildly faster Radeon...

What graphics card should I buy for under $100?

I agree that the 9550 is a nice budget chipset, but you can its faster brother the 9600 Pro (the 9550, the 9600, 9600 Pro and 9600 XT are identical, except for the clockspeed of the GPU and onboard memory; anything with an SE at the end is a crippled version though, with only a 64bit memory...

What graphics card should I buy for under $100?

I doubt CIV IV is going to push a graphics card nearly as hard as the latest FPS games (and heck, a Radeon 9800 Pro run HL2 and Doom 3 at 1024x768 acceptably) so it should run CIV 4 quite nicely, and since Cyberstar said he wasn't a big gamer, so not being able to run the latest games at high...

    Min System Requierment

It wouldn't be too hard to find a laptop that will play CIV IV nicely. A Pavillion ze2000z laptop can be configured with a 1.6ghz Turion (should match a 2.8ghz P4 in gaming apps), 512 MB Ram, its Radeon xPress 200M graphics chip should get CIV IV running nice, all for about $800.

    "Hardware transform and lighting (T&L)"????

How much are you willing to spend on getting a CIV 4 machine? That Pentium 4 chip honestly won't be much of an upgrade over your current Athlon system - Pentium 4's have rather poor performance per clock cycle, and that 2.2ghz chip would probably only equal a 1.7ghz or so Athlon. My advice...

Browser Tabs -- do you really need them?

I like tabs a lot - I tend to have a 100 or so web pages open at once at any given time, which is just unmanagable while using the taskbar alone. With Firefox, I tend to have 15-20 pages open in 5-6 windows (one for Slashdot, one for this site, another for webcomics, ect) and it works pretty well.

    New Laptop help me choose.

Both of those laptops have Intel Extreme(ly bad) integrated graphics. CIV4 is going to need hardware transformation and lighting, which that Intel graphics chip does not support. Thus, both these laptops wouldn't be able to play CIV4. :( You might want to look for the HP Pavillion ze2000z...

    any info about "civil war"?

Not all Civs have had a civil war, but quite a few have. In addition to those you metioned, Greece, China, Korea, England, France, Russia, and Japan I know have had civil wars, India was split after its indepence from the UK into Pakistan and India, and most of the other CIVs have had...

Going to build a new PC, comments please.

Basically, the Pro's 12 pipes x 475mhz gives you a max fill rate of 5700 Megapixels/second; the XL's 16 pipes x 400mhz give you a fill rate of 6400 megapixels/second. Also, the XL has faster memory as well - 980mhz vs 900mhz, giving the XL a memory bandwidth of 31.4 gigabytes/second, compared...

    Yahoo bumps storage to 1GB

Well, with Gmail at least, there is a nifty little program called the Gmail Drive Shell Extension that lets you use your Gmail account as a virtual hard drive. I use it to store my CIV 3 map &. saved game files, that way I can play the same game on different computers with ease.
