Er, I don't think it works in simultaneous turn timer games, but when you are in game you can use Alt-D to open up a box that allows you to change stuff like civ details and password.

That guys a tool. Don't listen to him. But yes, numpad instead of cardinal directions. 2 is south, 4 is west, 7 is north west etc. It is possible to use the numpad to move units in game rather than dragging via the mouse.
