    Bryan Johnson

This is a rich guy who's 45 years old. He looks like a regular rich guy with a healthy diet, no drug/addiction problems and regular exercise would look like when they're 45 years old. If he's discovered the truth to eternal life, wake me up when he isn't 45 years old. If he's still alive aged...

[RD] Russia Invades Ukraine: The 7th Thread Itch; scratch it here!

Prigozhin didn't bring his goons with him to Belarus, so I don't see how he can take over the country. He's probably just going to move on to one of Wagner's African colonies like Mali or Centrafrique.

[RD] Daily Graphs and Charts II: Another 10,000 to come.

In the 50s/60s Ireland had massive emigration. Young people left the country en masse, mostly to England. A lot of people who would be in their 70s/80s today don't exist (in Ireland) because their would-be parents left the country before they were born. Later, Ireland's economy improved and...

    Old games resurgent!!

Videogames have been going through a constant evolutionary process for the last 40 years. One of the formative experiences of my youth was reading Livy's The war with Hannibal (books 21-30 of Titius Livius' History of Rome) and realising that these ancient people who lived thousands of years ago...

    Old games resurgent!!

I'm 90 turns into a Julii playthrough of Rome: Total War (2004). I edited the game files to make Roman units 3x as expensive as they were originally. My economy is totally crippled and every unit I deploy here means stripping my defenses there. It's good fun. And because it's old and I already...

    Altered maps IZ: gib clay!

At first you think the map look ridiculous, but then you see Austroslovakia. Istanbul needed to be harvested so Bulgreece would have the resources to conquer Crimea.

[RD] Russia Invades Ukraine: War News Thread: Round 6

Ukraine's long-awaited offensive will depend on how strong the Ukrainian army is. Ukraine has been saying for months that they want to launch this attack, but they've also been saying that they need equipment to carry it out. The equipment Ukraine has, the location and the quantity are all...

[RD] Russia Invades Ukraine: War News Thread: Round 6

It's not surprising that Lula would take this stance. The US worked together with the Brazilian far-right to put him in prison for 5 years and install Bolsonaro. The Bolsonaro regime was a terrible disaster and many thousands of Brazilians died. Brazil has a lot of Leopard tanks and ammunition...

[RD] Daily Graphs and Charts II: Another 10,000 to come.

Christians are being oppressed and persecuted all over the world. It's a very real thing. But in many places, the problem isn't that Christians are being oppressed *specifically* as Christians, it's because there's a terrible situation and Christians just happen to be there. I don't want to...

[RD] Daily Graphs and Charts II: Another 10,000 to come.

Libya is so high up the list because of the abuse of migrants from sub-Saharan Africa trying to get to Europe. Libyans are Muslim and the African migrants are mostly Christian, therefore this is "Muslims abusing Christians". The same thing is happening on the US-Mexico border every day. But it...

[RD] Russia invades Ukraine V: The Turning Tide

I think most likely, Putin was hoping that Donald Trump would win the 2020 election. When that didn't happen and his GOP buddies failed to stage a coup, he was forced to improvise.

[RD] Russia Invades Ukraine--Act 3: Ride of the Valkyries

What it really comes down to is this: sometime in the next few weeks Russia is going to launch an attack through Sloviansk to Kramatorsk. If Ukraine succeeds in holding those two cities, then that's proof that Russia is exhausted and the war of attrition will end in Ukraine winning. If Russia...

[RD] Russia Invades Ukraine--Act 3: Ride of the Valkyries

APCs and ATGMs aren't really important. Russia learned the hard way during their initial invasion that this isn't a tank war. This is a war of attrition. This isn't France 1940, it's France 1916.

[RD] Russia Invades Ukraine--Act 3: Ride of the Valkyries

I did note that some of the captured Ukrainian vehicles had picture-prefect paint jobs. Not a scratch or a dent. Strange that after weeks of massive bombardment and Sievierodonetsk being reduced to total rubble these vehicles were in such good shape.

[RD] Russia Invades Ukraine--Act 3: Ride of the Valkyries

Really the only things that matter are the Ukrainian troops and their advanced western-supplied artillery. As long as they didn't suffer major losses in either of those, their fighting force will remain intact. Losing a bunch of old '80s Soviet tanks isn't a big loss.

[RD] Russia Invades Ukraine--Act 3: Ride of the Valkyries

Becoming friends with Europe/NATO would seriously hurt relations with China. China is trying to turn central Asia into it's own sphere of influence and they would *not* react well to what they would interpret as a NATO attempt to threaten them from the west. There's no way Tokayev would choose...

[RD] Russia Invades Ukraine--Act 3: Ride of the Valkyries

The main question about Lyschansk isn't "do the Russians control the city" The main question Is: "Did the Ukrainian army successfully retreat"

[RD] Russia invades Ukraine: Part II

I can't speak Russian so my understanding of Russia's state propaganda is limited. But from the limited bits I've seen, "de-Nazification", "the Nazis are attacking our people", "we have to stop the Nazis"... are recurring themes.

[RD] Russia invades Ukraine: Part II

There's definitely a serious problem with antisemitism in Ukraine, just like in Russia and many other countries. But, the Russian government is using "Nazi" as a smear to describe anyone opposed to their invasion. NATO are Nazis, the EU are Nazis... they've overused the word to the point where...
