    Replies to denouncements

It might be nice if there was an option like "If you denounce us, there will be war." Then the civ would have to decide whether to proceed with the denouncement or retract it. If it proceeds, war is automatically declared. That would have some actual teeth to it, unlike the ineffectual "You'll...

Losing AI wants peace but will not offer anything for it.

Yeah, this has been my experience too. I think once you beat an AI civ down to the point that it doesn't have any viable chance of winning the game, it's programmed not to give you anything. The AI can't rage quite, so it does this instead. In one game, I declared on France about 4 times. The...

    [LP] Romans in Space (Prince/Pangaea/SV)

Thanks, glad you liked it. Looking back, I wish I had written the entire thing up as a continuing story, but I would probably still be working on the game if I had.

    Penalties for cities

Short answer is no. They start with chieftain levels, then get extra bonuses at levels above Prince. For example, at deity, the unhappiness is 60%(for chieftain) x 60%(deity bonus) = 36%. You can find a list of the various bonuses and penalties here: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ5/difficulties

[BNW] Semi-noob questions from a former Civ3 player (Long post warning)

If you have the food, putting all the guilds in the same city with the National Epic and a garden will mean you'll generate them faster. If you don't have the food to work them all, then split them up. Generally for scientists, 1-2 academies, then save the rest for after research labs. If you...

    [LP] Romans in Space (Prince/Pangaea/SV)

One morning in the spring of 1780 AD, a cargo ship from Kathmandu entered the harbor or Rome carrying a load of aluminum for the city. Neither the captain or anyone else in Kathmandu knew what the silvery metal was used for, but the Romans seemed to treasure the metal, and the Kaths, idolizing...

I don't have time for 400 turn CV..

Yeah, peaceful victories tend to become tedious near the end once all of the pieces are in place. You know you'll win, but you have to hit End of Turn and wait 50+ turns in a row, plus deal with all the annoying pop-ups from civs begging for gold, wanting to start a war, etc. Domination can take...

    [LP] Romans in Space (Prince/Pangaea/SV)

Turns 201-225 Great set of turns. I won the World's Fair easily, and those social policies came rolling in. I picked up 3 policies in rationalism, then bulbed a GW to get the last one on the turn replaceable parts came in, and took plastics as my free tech. I also added a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd...

    [LP] Romans in Space (Prince/Pangaea/SV)

Turns 176-200 Making progress. During this set, I finished scientific method and built public schools in all cities, picked up industrialization and got coal online, then picked up electricity as a free tech from building Oxford. The timing was excellent, as the turn after I got radio, I opened...

    [LP] Romans in Space (Prince/Pangaea/SV)

Quiet, but productive set of turns. I teched from almost printing press to almost scientific method through banking, economics, acoustics, architecture. Built Borobudur, Notre Dame and LToP. I proposed World's Fair at the World Congress. It should pass. Building Forbidden Palace for extra votes...

A question about GS and GW bulbing

Thanks for the info guys. That really helps out with my decision making. Out of curiousity, is the GS science output a fixed amount regardless of the tech being researched (assuming I'm not trying to exploit the overflow)? That is, if I pop a GS for 5000 beakers, and I only have 2000 left on the...

    [LP] Romans in Space (Prince/Pangaea/SV)

Good set of turns. Happiness and gold concerns are hopefully a thing of the past now. I built Universities in all cities, and teched Engineering -> Compass-> MetalCasting-> Physics-> Machinery-> Guilds-> Chivalry, and I'm one turn away from Printing Press. I founded & enhanced Grogsism and...

Question: aka 'Pantheons Founders and Followers! OH MY!'

Pantheon is pretty-much always situation based for me. Most of the are +something to certain types of tiles so that one is almost always situation based. For founder, I like tithe (+1 gold / 2 followers), and the one that give +100g per city that converts. For follower, the religious...

    Planting Great People

Oops, I meant bulbing writers for culture. Do people usually save them for 8 turns into a Golden Age?

    Planting Great People

Does having cities set to build research count against that as well? I often have my cities set to build research during the latter part of the space race. There's usually not much to build at the end once research labs and spaceship factories are in. Also, is it the last 8 turns for bulbing...

    Why did I become unhappy?

Thanks, that is weird. There seem to be all sorts of these little nuances in the game that aren't adequately explained in the tooltips or the Civilopedia. At least I'm still getting the bonus, just not at the pop size I was expecting. I thought maybe it capped at 10 or something, and I didn't...

    [LP] Romans in Space (Prince/Pangaea/SV)

Interesting set of turns. I struggled with happiness, and to a lesser extent with gold in the first 15 turns or so, but I think I've turned the corner on that now. I bought salt from Bismarck, got the sugar tile up, finished colosseums in all cities, and built Chichen Itza (for the +4 happy)...

    Why did I become unhappy?

Hi all, I'm playing a game as Rome, and I've done a good job getting 4 cities up and getting the NC quickly, but I'm struggling with happiness right now. I have the full tradition tree completed. I had +1 happiness, and 2 cities set to grow the next turn. One was my capitol, which grew from...

Where do you put your great person tile improvement?

Can you plant a GP on a tile that has already been improved? It seems when I've tried in the past I haven't been able to (except generals). As a result I usually save a couple of tiles for academies.

Yeah, the observatory would be nice, especially since all my cities are coastal and astronomy will be useful for other things. It just has lousy placement, and I would have had to sacrifice early growth to settle near it. I think I'm too far from it to even build Machu Picchu as it is. Hopefully...
