    Which do you see first?

Normally, with 2-D optical illusions I see the id-driven or naughty image first (the two people kissing before I see the candle stick, or the demure Gibson girl before I see the crone. But with this one I saw the soldier in the helmet first, and then the dude mooning me only after I looked at it...

Osama bin Laden's last Facebook entry

Was it a candygram? Stripper gram? Pizza Hut? Or just another kid trying to get his soccer ball back?

When the inevitable "Kill Bin Laden" video game comes out, will you play it?

I'm assuming it's gonna be a first person shooter rather than, say, a civ type turn based game. (Imam, our think tanks suggest researching a new technology called "ducking out the back door") So, will you play this game when it comes out, or it that too edgy for you? Well?

Which Beatle would you prefer to have as your country's leader?

It's 1979, so you can't make any idiotic statements like "But two of them are dead," cause in this flight of fancy, they ain't dead--not even Paul. And this is a totally serious discussion. Totally. So, let's say you had a magic ballot given to you by the magic elections fairy which would...

A History of God (thru April 29th)

There's about 11 days left for you to watch (or download) A History of God on Google videos. It's a decent way to kill 90 minutes.

Foreign Policy: China bans time travel (shows)

China bans time travel By Joshua Keating Monday, April 11, 2011 Beijing is taking action against an increasingly popular genre on Chinese television. From the China Hush blog: The New Yorker's Richard Brody suggests that what's making censors uncomfortable, is less what these dramas...

Question about a possible Superman unit

Has anyone ever designed a "Superman" unit? I'm open to looking for other ways of doing this. The idea I got for it was this: You get the unit in the late game. Perhaps create an optional tech at the end of the industrial era (pre-req of motorized transport or electronics) called "Alien...

How well do AIs use their Forbidden Palaces?

I've never quite figured out the logic AIs bring to building their secondary capitals. Being such a big project, and the fact that my advisers start pushing me to build it the second it's available, it seems like they'd tend to waste their FPs by building them in their core cities. I don't think...

    Video: an idiot plays Civ3

Try not to hit your computer screen. I don't think this blithering poltroon actually means to be an idiot. But he somehow manages to get there, anyway. If you can handle grinding your teeth for an 11 minute video, there's a few unintentional laughs here.

    Nostradamus's naughty quatrain

Century 1 - Quatrain 21 I believe our boy Michel was talkin' about monkey spankin' here. I welcome other literary interpretations, of course, but I'm pretty sure this was his rebuke to the antionanists.

Charlie Sheen v Muammar Gaddafi: Whose line is it anyway?

From the Guardian's website... a little test, sort of a post modern civics test, comparing the relative lunacy of Charlie Sheen and Moammar Gadaffi. It's a series of quotations and you have to see if you can figure out which delusions go to which guy. I got 3 out of ten. Take the test and...

I've looked around, but can't find it: A Wizard of Oz mod

Has anyone done either a game modpack or even a custom unit mod set based on the Wizard of Oz? I mean, it ain't the Lord of the Rings, but still it is a fairly complete alternate world (surrounded by impassable desert tiles until you get the helium balloon tech). So it seems like a natural. Of...

Why did some Nazis wear skulls and bones on their collars?

I just saw "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" with my class last week. I've seen those Nazi uniforms for years. Even back when my knowledge of the Holocaust was based on reruns of Hogan's Heroes, I always thought those little skulls on the Nazi uniforms was kinda badassed. But I'm a little more...

What's the *last* tech you acquire in each era?

I tend to get construction last among the ancient techs, navigation last among the medieval, and flight last among the industrial age techs. But it's always a struggle trying to figure out which one I least need to rush to.

Worst ever AI use of armies

last regular PTW game I played, I found one of my armies duking it up with an Aztec army composed of two riflemen... and a catapult. :king: I bow before thy wisdom, O Great A.I.

I can't believe I don't know this, but... (RoP agreements)

I should know this. But I can't find it on the FAQ. Does getting a Right of Passage agreement require both civs to know map making, or can you get RoP with only one of the partners having gotten that far.
